Well, I haven't been here for a long time....but I spotted this thread.
I carry a .45 ACP Colt Commander almost every day...usually. However, I've also had occasion to carry a Ruger New Vaquero in .45 Colt. I'm a firm believer in a big, slow-moving bullet with a large frontal mass.
But, as Sam...
Cripes, I hope I haven't yet made that purchase! :D
Recently acquired a vintage Mod. 57 S&W in .41 Magnum. A real shooter!
Anyone else out there like the .41 Mag?
Would be wise to keep an eye on this legal action by SAF, NRA and NSSF. They're joined in a lawsuit v. City of Seattle over a tax on the retail sale of firearms and ammunition.
These will get you all up to speed...
'Theohazard'
Don't believe for a nano-second that the police don't know what a "transfer" is. That's pretty well defined at the bottom of Page 6 of the Initiative.
What they're really saying is that they have no intention of confirming to the general publi that this measure is as big a stinker...
The .357 Max was a failure in any gun. The late Ted Wilcox, another gun writer from the Northwest, and I had this chat about the .357 Max. he said some were claiming it would make the .41 Magnum obsolete and I had a good laugh over that one. Right up front I predicted it would be a flash in the...
Codrea, Hofmann and myself have written quite a bit about this
google
David Codrea Gun Rights Examiner
Kurt Hofmann St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner
Dave Workman Seattle Gun Rights Examiner
I've actually spoken to CEO Dimitrios Karras twice...
Walker, with all due respect..ARE YOU NUTS? :D
You must have a death wish. It's not clear what your ambulance trip was all about, but it must have almost killed you so.... If you want to attend the next Christmas party, don't press your luck.
Item No. 2...a new rifle is not "a toy."...
Mokin:
Not to be combative, but it's up to each of us to know who to vote for. A lot of people have different reasons for voting against someone. I'd never allow someone to tell me who to vote for and who not to vote for, and I'd never ask that kind of advice from someone else.
WHOA, waitaminute....Time out!
I revisited this thread late Friday night and it appears some people didn't read my link....this is a non story now. It ain't gonna happen. There's nothing to sue about, nothing to write letters to a local newspaper about, You're outraged over something that...
Yeah, but there's more to the story:
Newspaper CCW project shelved...
http://www.examiner.com/article/newspaper-ccw-project-shelved-gun-talk-to-tackle-microstamping
This undercores the value of changing or writing laws that protect gun owner privacy.
Stressed:
Alas, that may have been another time in another place... perhaps a fantasy place that is Gone With The Wind...
but the reality is we're here, and we're here now.
And as I wrote today, Bill Gates has just ponied up with $25K.
This ain't good. :cuss:
Got this buck with a Savage in .308 Winchester/Leupold 3-9X scope...Snake River north side.
About 200 yards. It's a 4x5-point mule deer. I used handloads with 165-grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. Hodgdon 4895 powder, Nosler brass and CCI primers.
I can smell the summer sausage in the smoker...
Oh, my...where to begin?
First. thanks to everyone for their interest in the dueling initiatives..
I-594 is a 15-page gun control measure that would set up a far-reaching state level background check.
I-591 is a one-page measure that mandates that state background checks comply with a...
The Gun Rights Policy Conference is coming to Houston, TX Sept. 27-29.
Sponsored by Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, this weekend event brings together a lot of the biggest names in gun rights.
A highlight this year will be Emily...
GOOD FOR YOU!
And good for your dad. I'm 63 now and I think back and wonder many times..."if only..."
We all have regrets as we get older. You are doing something to prevent that. Wear it with pride.
My dad passed when he was 50 and never lived to see his grandsons. He could have taught...
AFAIK, the NSSF doesn't take donations as they are supported by industry and individual membership.
Try SAF, NRA, CCRKBA... but only when you can afford it. I had to sell my organs today to pay for a tank of gasoline...
:D
Here are the goodies. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has sued in federal court against the new CT gun law. It's an interesting lawsuit.
NSSF press release

A relative handful, the low-level twerps who were the buyers in this fiasco. After more than 2 years of covering that fiasco, with Codrea, Hofmann, Vanderboegh and a relative handful of others (including CBS' Attkisson, Fox's La Jeunesse and LA Times' Serrano), this is kind of a raw nerve, you...
Nonsense.
There are a variety of marvelous CCW holsters available, and plenty of major caliber guns that are easily carried concealed. I've carried everything from a .32 Beretta to a Model 27 S&W 6-inch in .41 Magnum and nobody was the wiser. It simply required a bit of care toward one's...
