    No RESIDENT NV Tags Again

For five years now I have not drawn any big game tag in my native State of Nevada. As a 76 y/o native I've had it. I spent $180.00 for resident application fees again, and zip. I can no longer travel 1/2 way across the country to a more hunter friendly state, nor can I afford the out of state...

Looked at the New Ruger American II YUCK!

Mine have the balance point at the floor plate area and carry well...horizontal. Much of the terrain where I hunt is so rough and vertical that an easy horizontal balance point is advantageous. We mostly still-hunt and are constantly moving a little and watching a little, all day long, so using...

Close together hammer spurs on a double

Some of my old hammer guns are easy to cock, and some need a come-along and anchor point. :p My American Gun Company has me using a lot of effort to cock just one hammer.:uhoh:

Looked at the New Ruger American II YUCK!

Full agreement on the first generation American Predator punching higher than it's weight class. I have one in 22-250 that is amazingly accurate and is a joy to carry. Ruger can sell their new morphadite to the new shooters, and the best of luck to Ruger, an American Gun Company I'll always...

Close together hammer spurs on a double

IMO it's good and bad. Good: The hammers are close enough to cock both together. Bad: Cocking both hammers at the same time is hard to do with one thumb...double the difficulty to pull them back.

Looked at the New Ruger American II YUCK!

Loon, Look at any seasoned blue & walnut hunting rifle and the heaviest wear you see is in the floor plate bluing. With all the industry appealing to the tacti-cool shooters, they've sure screwed up what could be ergonomic rifles for hard carry. I'm all for servicing every segment of the...

Looked at the New Ruger American II YUCK!

They took a pretty nice rifle to carry and made it nearly impossible to carry under the magazine. The new magazine sticks out like a sore thumb, and the mag-release is even worse. They're not designed for where and how we hunt where I am.

    The classic "Hardware" double barrel

Oh Man!! I have looked for a Remington for years that wasn't loose as a goose and all beat up. I wish I owned it, and you had a better one.

That looks like more fun than a barrel full of cheerleaders!:D

Would it make any sense to do this?

Being new to the 6.5 Manbun-Moor and loving the little guy, I say you have all bases covered to rationalize what you want to do. Go for it! Also, I would like a report with a few pics. ;)

Do you guys mount your own scopes?

I'm a graduate from the same school. In a few minutes I'll mount a Leupold VariX 3-9 Compact on top of my new-to-me Kimber Hunter in the new-to-me 6.5 Manbun-moor. I think I'm going to like something light that has light recoil and is easy to load for.

Caliber selection for small frame hunter

It does degrade with added fierceness for sure, both recoil and blast. It's never good to expose someone to either who would probably react negatively. My limit was a 416 Rigby. I wasn't ready for it, and it knocked the snot out of me. Those "tame" 375's seemed much tamer! I think we're both...

    The classic "Hardware" double barrel

My old American Gun Company 12ga double is still as tight as an old miser and weighs about nine pounds. It says "armory steel" and "choke bore". The barrels shine inside and the two locks are in great shape with hard-to-pull-back triggers. It still has a lot nice color case on the receiver. The...

    Light Triggers for Light Rifles

My theory is that light rifles should have light triggers. Simple inertia says a 1/2 pound pull on a 5 pound thing will have far more effect/movement than it would on a 10 pound thing. All things being equal, I shoot best with very light triggers on anything. I do a lot better with light...

Caliber selection for small frame hunter

You hang with a different crowd. Most of the guys I hunt and shoot with are excellent and seasoned marksmen, and they're not very recoil conscious. A lot depends on where and what you've hunted for years. I have friends who use a 375 of some sort for elk and some who use a 270. A good friend...

As a private party, can I still mail a long gun via USPS?

You can also send ahead a long gun USPS to yourself at a hunting or match destination area for instance. Only you are allowed to open the parcel, and you can mail it back home to you, all without the need to go through an FFL holder.

Caliber selection for small frame hunter

Yes, to some extent I agree. However, I've tried moderate extremes in recoil on many people, and without a single exception, not hearing the report "tamed" the recoil. Also, IMO a light 30-06 with 180's is still a pussycat in a proper fitting rifle, especially if the shooter can't hear the...
