Just bought a basket case '58 and need a set of grips. The best price so far is Dixie with an unfinished set for $4.95.The next thing is a set of faux ivory for $30.00, anyone have any suggestions? I'm not picky, just looking for something to throw on it that fits correctly.
.45 acp
Having not researched your source, there is also a .45ActionCowboyPistol cartridge. Not to be confused with the one most modern 1911 semi-auto pistols are chambered in, .45acp....
Robert T. Shimek
This fine author, sportsman, hunter, writer, historian and gentlemen did a fine historical and practical article for Guns&Ammo magazine annual back in the '80's on the lethality of the blackpowder revolver with much testing and research. He wound up using a reproduction Walker to...
cabelas guns/parts
I've bought several old pietta revolvers that had to have replacement parts.I ordered parts kits from Cabelas for "their" new revolvers and found them to be nearly drop in replacements.I also bought a brass frame '51 from Cabelas and it had a timing problem.I ordered a new...
In defense of the Gentlemen.
A quality out of the box Remington target model will compete with the out of the box Ruger.I own a Ruger and it is a fine shooting iron. Please understand that Italian quality is up!The target Remington is accurate and lighter to boot.Is is cosmeticly as good? NO.I...
1974 Prototype,
This was one of the transitional guns made in Italy with the .45 cal. barrel. The early model Ruger had a .44 cal. barrel with .457 chambers. Bill had this one made by ASM Before tooling up his own machinery to build it here in the U.S.(HUMOR)
Long term storage is one thing, for a gun such as a black-powder revolver that is shot and cleaned often, I use canola oil such as is used for cooking as a lubricant and rust preventive. It does dry out however and re-application is necessary often. It works well for me. Long term, I use...
I must comment on the links above, I used the links to "tune" two 1851 Pietta clones and it worked wonderfully! Following these instructions will almost make "race" guns out of something that isn't. I wound up polishing every contact surface on all the moving parts I could get to, ramped the...
Documented frame stretch?
Has anyone ever seen an actual gun that was abused/used with large charges to the point the frame was damaged/stretched on a brass-framed remington?I know use mild to moderate loads and they will last a lifetime.
effectiveness of the .50 cal. roundball
My arms of choice an early production Thompson Center Hawken, and an early nineties Traditions Hawken. Our ancestors killed everything in the world with round balls including elephant.Anything in North America is in great danger of a .50 cal. round ball...
I usually go to half-cock,then drop the loading lever, then pull out the cylinder pin, then slightly rotate the cylinder in it's revolving direction while gently pushing it out.Does everyone do it this way or am I working at too hard?
another piece of advice,or two.
Wire EDM.Do you have a friend in the machining/tool & die line of work, you can cut the slug out that way,the wire isn't very expensive but the work is, it will save your revolver and the cylinder. One example of wire diameter is .004.Or drill the middle out...
In reading some of your opinions the target sights are just something that come loose unless threadlocker is used,so is the standard model just as good from a hitting what you're aiming at point of view?Or after zero is found lock it down and its' the best ever. Then throw the 5.5 in the mix and...
