My wife bought a 2" blue five shot Rossi (model R35102FC - had to look that up) back around 2001 or 2002. I liked it so well, I decided to buy one for myself and ended up with a Taurus model 85 at about the same time '01-'02.
The Taurus M85 is also a blue 2" five shot. It is a ported barrel...
1. S&W .44 Hand Ejector 1st Model 'New Century' "Triple Lock"
2. S&W .357 Registered Magnum
3. 1916 .45ACP Springfield Armory 1911 (the real SA).
4. BSA .303 British Lee Speed Rifle
5. 1922 Colt .38 Special Police Positive (serial numbered one past my Grandfather's that I have today).
Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. My father in law was an agronomist and university professor. Also a WW2 AAF veteran. He realized that something was happening to him and before the disease progressed very far, he brought me into a spare bedroom in his house and gave me a .22 rifle and .410...
.32-20 case length
MEHavey,
Why in the world case length never occurred to me.... I had two once fired cases that I tried, didn't work, oh well..
It's funny, I've been handloading since 1976 and currently load for around 30 cartridges with dies for more. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm...
Gas checked
Jski, i'll look to to those. I've only tried these Penn Bullets in mine. I didn't post the manufacturer before because I didn't want to blame the brand, I think they are good quality bullets, they just didn't work as well for me.
Lead bullets
Jski, the lead bullets are .309" 115gr bevel base, not gas checked and I don't know what the hardness is. They were sold for .30 Carbine. They are good looking bullets, blue lube, just not as accurate for me as jacketed bullets.
Also, I've heard that some use .32-20 brass in...
.30 Carbine Blackhawk
I handload for mine as well.
I haven't had great success with hardcast lead but I have had good reults with various 110gr JSPs and the 90 grain XTP.
Most of my handguns are either fixed or adjustable open sites but I do have a few that are scoped, including my .30...
I would shoot it as much as you want. Don't abuse it but no need in saving it for the next guy. That rifle was made to be used, not to sit in the safe.
My odd caliber is 7.65 Argentine chambered in a 1909 Argentine Mauser. I don't shoot it very often but it is a good shooting rifle in very good condition. I even have a bayonet for it.
I grew up as a military dependent (Air Force Brat) and was raised around guns. My dad hunted his entire life, his father was a hunting and fishing guide in south Louisiana. I got my first gun for my 7th birthday in 1961, a single shot Remington 514. My dad signed me up for a junior rifle club...
That is a beautiful rifle! I would also like to see a few full length pictures; right/left/top/bottom.
I have a 1903 Sporter with open sights and an 03-A3 Sporter that is scoped. Mine are nice but not nearly as well done as yours.
Another "shoot it" vote. I have one of the early ones marked Wesson & Harrington. It is a surprisingly good shooter.
I wouldn't worry about breaking it, H&R Handi Rifles (which is what the Buffalo Classic really is) are reasonably strong, simple but well made rifles.
Like others have...
I have both a hinged floor plate and detachable mags for my Howa pictured above. My rifle came with both. Like one of the previous posters, I was leery of the plastic magazines and didn't even try them for a couple of years. However, after swapping the hinged floor plate out for the detachable...
Howa 1500
I have a Howa 1500 in .223 Remington. It is one of the heavy barrel combination rifle/scope packages that Howa sold a few years ago that came in an overmolded Hogue stock. I planned on replacing the stock with either a walnut or laminated Boyds or maybe a B&C or something similar...
Taurus M85
Mine isn't stainless but my blue 2" M85 has been a great little revolver. Mine is a ported model that they sold a few years ago. I think that they are a good value for the money.
I bought mine new and have only fired regular 158gr JSPs through it. I haven't had any problems with...
Bare aluminum will oxidize but if oiled and wiped down it will be ok. It won't corrode and pit the metal as easily as bare steel can.
I would just keep it clean and leave as is. I like the honest worn look.
Police Positive Special
OP, yours is in much better cosmetic condition than mine. Mine also dates from the '20s but right now I cannot remember what year (I think 1922 but?).
Mine was my grandfather's and was carried often in the marches in south Louisiana where he was a hunting and fishing...
.35 Remington
My .35 Remington is an older 336C made before the receiver safety button. It's a very good shooter and was my hog gun before I added a 444P Outfitter. I shoot 200 gr JSPs through mine almost exclusively.
As for the advice to not shoot yours because it is a limited production...
PSA Parts and Uppers
I have nothing but good to say about PSA. In the last three years, I've ordered two 10.5" uppers, a stainless 16" upper, four LPKs (two with "enhanced" hammers and triggers) two of their premium BCGs, two Bushnell AR scopes and an assortment of grips, stocks, spring kits...
