They Don't Call it a Masterpiece for No Reason...

The Model 18 (.22 LR), the Model 15, and the Model 60 got exercised this afternoon at the indoor range. Groups were fine, not record setting. Hard to think of a better way to spend some time! A few rounds, twice a week works better for me than extended range sessions. YMMV.

    Do I really NEED one?

No one needs one. The fact that you want one is sufficient. If your financial obligations are not affected, indulge yourself, Sir. Enjoy. Post photos.

    Blackpowder at sunset

A good friend who lives near Bolivar, Missouri, likes to make me envious by shooting on his ranch. He titled this photo "Blackpowder at sunset." Bless him.

Fresh primer hits the ground, becomes a golden nugget search

A couple of years ago I fumbled a fresh tray of small pistol primers in my reloading room. On hands and knees, with a high intensity flashlight, I searched every nook and cranny, and found 104 unfired primers. That was a good enough return that I did it again the next day! 😁

    Pietta Shooter's Model stripped threads

Never tried it. Wonder Lube, Mobil 1, etc., even plain beeswax worked fine for me. Use something for sure. Although I think the chamber threads are more likely to get stripped when the nipple gets inserted and tightened rather than during removal. I have successfully removed stuck nipples on...

So, You Want To Start Casting…?

Molds, books, furnaces, sizers, lubes will be easy to obtain compared to getting good lead for casting. If money is not an impediment, you can order what you need. New wheel weights are no longer lead. Roofing flashing, lead pipes, various weights, reclaimed shot, may not be readily...

    Pietta Shooter's Model stripped threads

It's a good lesson for all of us: snug is sufficient, torqued is unnecessary. Just like putting grips on...over tightening the grip screws can cause damage.

Why Do You Carry A Gun?

I believe I saw this (or words to this effect) in another High Road thread: Someone else will decide if I need a gun for self defense, and it's unlikely they will give me any warning.

My favorite 357 All Steel Revolver

Guessing: Target trigger Target hammer Target sights Target grips Target length barrel ...which is a bit confusing because I wouldn't normally call the Ivorex magna grips "target", so I must be missing something too. But I agree, it's a gun to be proud of!

    The big N Frames

Adjust your clothing choices for improved concealment. Roomy untucked shirts and/or a light sport coat work wonders, and can make you the best dressed man in WalMart.

    10-5 trigger stuck in frame

See the spring at the front of the cyinder stop? Try to take pressure off the cylinder stop by compressing that spring with something, maybe a tiny screwdriver, and see if that will free things up. You can see that the cylinder stop should be free to move forward, but it's blocked by spring...

You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

My first instruction to folks when teaching them to shoot is, "Forget everything you have seen and heard about guns on TV and in the movies. They don't handle firearms safely."

    Good starting load.

I cannot tell you where I read it, but as I recall the starting load in grains of 2F/3F powder should be 1.5 times the bore diameter in inches, which would be (1.5X50=75) 75 grains of black powder. I recall reading that some old gunmakers would spread a sheet on the ground in front of their...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

I have used a food scale to measure trigger pull also. I hung a ziplock plastic bag on the trigger (poke the trigger through the upper corner of the bag). Cock the gun and hold it vertically and then pour lead shot (yeah, I was reloading shotshells at the time) into the bag until the trigger...
