To tune or not to tune?

Hello, I have a Colt New Frontier in .44 Special that was manufactured circa 1981, which I believe makes it ‘3rd generation.’ It shoots fine and spent cases are not difficult to eject. However, the trigger (to my amateur senses) feels a bit stiff and the grips are poorly fitted. I am...

    Starline .357 Magnum cases

Minimal flare and light to medium crimp with my Starline .44 Special brass. Mid-range loads as well, never pushing near max grains. I’m on my 6th or 7th round of loading the same brass and still looks new. Primers seat tight and no signs of cracking.

Best powder for 9 mm PCC?

Have experimented quite a bit with my Sig MPX, 13.5” barrel. only powder with significant gains in velocity has been AA#7, generally getting 1250 fps with 124 grain bullets and 1150 fps with 147 grain bullets. All of my loads are usually .5 grains under max loads as I’ve got little interest in...

    Primers in stock

Local gun show last weekend, I bought 1000 Federal SR primers for $100. Vendor had maybe 14 boxes, didn’t see anyone else buying them though. I considered that a fair price. also picked up the Lee 2nd edition manual just because you never have enough manuals. overall things seemed pretty...

My first contact with the wonderfully famous Ruger customer service.

Solid first experience with Ruger customer service. GP100 with maybe 3500 rounds of mostly lead .38 spl and carried in a shoulder holster for years working land. Last fifty rounds through it, the cylinder was slow to turn, locked up once, and I noticed some fore/aft movement when the cylinder...

Your best shot with a handgun intentional or not

A bobcat in FL on the far bank of a creek, from a tree stand at a range of about 30 yards. December, 2011. 6” Ruger GP100 in .357. Ex-wife took half of my taxidermy in the divorce, including the full-mount cat. And no, she’s doesn’t hunt or shoot.

Off the wall question - how long do you tumble brass?

2 hours, with polish. Unless I forget about them. But after the 2 hour mark, the difference between 2 or 3 or even 4 hours seems to be less and less. I’ve done as little as 45 minutes before and was able to load and shoot that brass without issues.

    9mm 147 gr Loads

I’m far from an expert, but I have been experimenting for some time with 147 grain bullets in 9mm. Concur with the slower powder recommendation above, I’ve settled on AA#7 from a 13.5” barreled Sig MPX. Prior to that, I was trying 800X but after working up to a max load, velocity topped out at...

When did you start reloading ?

2013. In my garage. So glad I did, keeps me supplied through weird times like these. Worked up 50 rounds of .38 Special last night for pennies on the dollar to what they go for online. Ya ever get to a point where you go and buy a gun in a specific caliber for no reason other than an interest...

    Cleaning a S&W wheelgun

Copy all, and thank you. Will hold off on further disassembly until there’s a real need for it with the 63. regarding my Rugers, the GP100 in particular, the disassembly was often after carrying that gun on my land and it being drenched in sweat, dust, dirt, etc. I’d reckon 20% of the blueing...

    Cleaning a S&W wheelgun

Hello all, I’m a lifelong shooter of Ruger revolvers. SP101, GP100, and a super single six. I’d argue my GP100 has gotten its own trigger job by way of the thousands of rounds of .38 over the years. But today I picked up a S&W 63 on a whim since my LGS had sold the SP101 in .22 that I went in...

    Sig MPX w/ AA#7

I’ve been tinkering with an MPX for quite some time now. 13.5” barrel with a 2.5” flash suppressor to keep it legal. Initially tried 800X with 147 grain FPs, but at max load only got about 900 FPS. Frustrated at first, I’ve come around to liking them as they’re very quiet and minimal recoil...

    .45 ACP ammo blemished

Forgot to mention the ring on the bullets. I kinda figured they were likely reloads

    .45 ACP ammo blemished

Humbly submit the following question... I was given 200 rounds of factory Winchester .45 ACP by a good friend moving to DC. He got it from his uncle.. when I saw that it was in Dillon plastic cases, I asked if he knew any more about it. He did not. So I left it at that. Now I know don’t ever...

    .38 brass question

I’ve shot both factory and reloads through my Winchester 1873, literally 1000+ rounds. It’s a Muroku and has been absolutely flawless up until yesterday. The Blazer rounds would slide slightly sideways in the chamber and lock up the action, as if they weren’t being held correctly by the...

    .38 brass question

Is .38 Special ammo within specs without an extractor groove? I shot some Blazer .38 Special today at a LGS and it gave my Winchester 1873 fits in both loading and extracting. Turns out it had no extractor groove. Never seen this before.... will likely reload it, but keep it for revolvers.

    .357 Magnum for Deer?

I've got a few boxes of the now discontinued Hornady XTP-FP 158 bullets, which is still a hollow point, but much smaller of a cavity. Per the old Hornady reloading annual catalogues, it's rated up to 1700 FPS or so for expansion. So I've got a box of 50 of them loaded with W296 that chrono'd...

    Serious Distraction: Just say no.

++++1 I can load 50 rounds of 38 special in 50 minutes no problem, laying out what I need and how I want it set up, sorting brass, de-priming, cleaning pockets, priming, belling, powder, and precise COL. But when the wife says 'you've got one hour then you're watching the kid' and I'm on the...

I think I'm over my AR...

***update**** It looks like i may sell the upper to a buddy along with the AimPoint PRO. With that, I'm looking hard at a Varmint setup - the Rock River Arms website is advertising 20% off complete uppers.. Seem like my 'dilemma' may be solved. .223 Wylde chamber...... any thoughts?
