Any American citizens of hispanic/latino background here?

I'm with Mr. Vanitas. The vision of the founders was civil rights for human beings - not just the ones with "papers." Most of the undocumented working people are on payrolls. They give employers social security numbers which aren't theirs. Employers pay SSI (7.5% - most people don't know about...

    Just say NO to Steyr

"Our" defense industry sold them F-14s and frigates. The Chinese sell them missiles. ETC., ETC., ETC.

Price is MORE with a Credit Card? - No dice!

Keep in mind that the credit card company charges 3% on the total purchase. If the purchase is $100, that's $3. If the store's margin (profit) is 25%, then the credit card cost is 12%, not 3%. That's onerous. Your taxes work the same way. A 6% sales tax is 6% on post income tax dollars. In...

    NEW 'ONE HOLE SHOOTER'

Just went through this myself. There are a limited number of Remington 700s made with a 5R rifled barrel. They come with an HS stock which has a full length aluminum bedding block. I think that offers the best potential accuracy for the buck in a 700. That said, I didn't buy one. I'm a high...

    "Disguising" guns during transport

An AR in place of the old sand wedge would certainly beat my Michelob beer can wood covers for reaction from my fellow golfers! Plus you could boldly "improve your lie" just about anytime you want after word gets out.

Should it really be all about Momentum?

Regarding the baseball analogy - wouldn't you have to factor in reasonable comparisons - such as size and density of projectile?

    POLL....Are you a shooter or a hunter?

It would be interesting to break this down further - "sportsman/sportswoman" or "bozo." I'm not a hunter, but have a great deal of respect for the guys I see at my club who talk about one shot, clean kills and discuss the relative merits of calibers vs. game. Some of my favorite stories are...

    How old are you?

I shoot high power and at 45, I am younger than most shooters. It's sad because that means the sport is dieing. On the other hand, I shoot with some of the greatest old guys I've ever met. One of them (Bill Alcorn) beat me in a match a couple of years ago and said "Hey sonny, now you can tell...

A day with an AR-10A4 carbine...

I've found that the bolt must be wet in an AR. I use Break Free liberally. If you hold the bolt carrier group with the bolt retracted and flick your arm down, the bolt should move to the forward position from just that inertia alone. If the bolt binds in the carrier group things can go wrong.

    Thinking about joining the Marines...

I spent 8.5 years on active duty as a helicopter pilot in the Navy. The OCS for aviation was run by USMC drill instructors. It was a bizzare four months and despite the fact that it was 22 years ago, I can still remember individual days. If you are looking to join the service, IMHO the Coast...

Has your Gun shop ever Screwed you over

It depends on what your sport is. I like high power, so I shop online. My favorite shops are Creedmore, Champions, OK Weber and Fulton Armory. I've been treated very fairly by all four of those businesses. It's tough to get overcharged these days since you can shop very well online. BTW...

How many of you actually like to shoot?

I ended up shooting a lot more once I got involved in competitive shooting. I enjoy high power a great deal and once I get my high master ticket, I'm going to take sporting clays a lot more seriously. Being a competitor gives you a source of pride, a challenge and a sense of purpose. I find...

    My first rifle! Woo-HOO!

I use an OTIS cable on my lever actions. You thread the cable through the breech end and pull it out thorugh the muzzle. They work great (I don't use a rod on anything anymore). I like my 94. Good luck with yours.

how volatile is ammo re: shipping?

I had an order of 500 rounds of .223 shipped to me - loose in an ammo can. I didn't think that was a very good idea.

I agree, it should be quantified.

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

In this case, I don't think you can say that the refusal to renew was bogus. There's too many tickets in too short a time. If USMCsilver lived in NJ, his insurance would probably be more than $5K a year with that record. If I were a legislator (or even running a lobby), I wouldn't spend my...

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

Whoa. Shall we review the problem at hand? 1. Common sense will tell you that the guy had too many speeding tickets in too short a period of time. 2. He wants to be a LEO. 3. Creating an s-storm over this will most likely eliminate item 2 from his future, plus the odds are less than...

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

I was thinking the same thing - the government usually wants some period of time to elapse while good behavior is exhibited. Five years would probably do it. It's a funny thing with tickets - every so often (once every few years), I'll get pulled over and the first question is "how's your...

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

You cannot polish a turd with lawyers. If your USMC record is a good one, I would re-write your letter to be more humble and I would include more about your record other than traffic violations. Did you earn any ribbons, do sea service or serve overseas? How are you paying for college -...

Wash DC and NYC security observations

In NYC, I've been noticing an increase of well muscled "street people" hanging around. There are also roving SWAT style teams and plenty of uniformed officers pounding the pavement. For those of you who haven't visited the big apple lately, Mayor Guiliani (the man who should be president)...
