    642 Club Part Three

Hogue grips/pocket carry I pocket carry with the Hogue monogrips. The butt of the grip is still well inside the pocket and perfectly concealed on me. I use a Mika holster. I'm usually wearing either tactical pants or work pants, both of which have DEEP FRONT POCKETS, which I think is the...

The Hogue monogrips make it a different, better gun for me. The main problem I had with the originals was there was nothing between the web of my hand and the metal backstrap. Recoil sting + awkward grip. Not only do I feel less recoil with the Hogue, but the gun fits my hand better for...

Another Hogue Monogrip endorsement here. Improved my shooting 1000%. I could never grip the weapon properly with the stock grips. If you pocket carry in a small pocket (like the ones in jeans) and the butt of the gun is visible, the Hogue grip may cause you a problem. If you pocket carry...

I'm an Ayoob fan myself. Like the best writers/instructors in self-defense, he encourages independent thinking and experimentation. IMO not doing it exactly like he does is truly in the spirit of what he does, if that makes any sense. And amen to the rest of your post.

No pressure, I only asked you because I asked this question once before and no one had any input. It seems like we are pretty much doing the same thing. I don't choke up that much (with a bigger aftermarket grip it doesn't seem quite as necessary) but I do force the weapon into my hand...

Hi Jake - How do you grip the weapon in your pocket when you draw? I've tried the Ayoob method with the hand knifing in and the thumb behind the hammer, but found I can actually get a full combat grip sans trigger finger and draw a lot faster.

Non j-frame people? Man you can't listen to them if you want to hang out here. ;) All joking aside a snubby, +P or not, has its disadvantages and if you're used to shooting a typical defensive autopistol the snubby can be a challenge. The snubby also has its advantages though. You can...

    1) I use CLP on mine, no finish problems. I'm not sure if it will bother the lacquer on the aluminum parts long-term, but according to other posters here that lacquer will wear off one day anyway. 2) If a j-frame is rated for +P (and 642s are) then it's a matter of personal preference. To...

I'm thin too, Nematocyst. But I can see tall thin pants being a problem. I think big pockets and somewhat loose-fitting clothes are the key. Another thing: if you keep stuff in your opposite side pocket (cellphone, keys, etc.) it balances things out. Both my pockets look like they have a...

    642 Club Part Three

I can pocket carry just fine with the Hogue Monogrip. I use a Mika holster in work pants or tactical pants. Even in regular pockets I don't think it makes a huge difference - it's about a fingerwidth more black rubber, but it's actually less noticeable because the backstrap metal isn't...

The trigger reset is awkward, even compared to other DA revolvers. I had the same problem myself. Eventually I just dry-fired and shot it into muscle memory.

I understand the anti-lock sentiment. The lock makes me feel like some anti-gun legislator handled it and got authoritarian germs all over it that you can't wash off. But is there any practical reason for preferring a no-lock model? Have they ever been known to be a point of failure or...

I've been confused about that before too (see rdrancher's post #810 on the previous page of this thread). They list both here, a 125gr and a 135gr SB: http://www.speer-ammo.com/ballistics/ammo.aspx GandR's listed part number is closer to the SB and it's 135gr.

Ammo question: Are Speer's 38 Special GDHP all optimized for short barrels, or are there separate 38s for regular-size barrels and separate 38s for short barrels?

May I suggest that Mr. Bond be armed with a revolver?

Gladius, you are indeed correct. Bond is no superhero in these books. He suffers a lot of physical and psychological damage from his adventures. The adventures themselves are much more down-to-earth too, at least in the earlier novels. Most of the "villains" are merely gangsters or...

beatledog7 - I am actually talking about heavy-duty work pants, the kind made by Dickies, Lands End, etc. The pockets are much deeper (and sturdier) than casual cargo pants. They could be considered less fashionable though. :) Anyway, it's all going to come down to what works for you...

beatledog7 - I also have large hands with longer fingers and switched to the Hogue monogrip. The butt does stick out of smaller pockets. A couple of ways I've found around this are pants with deeper pockets (work pants work great) and wearing a longer shirt.

The primary reason I wanted one was that with the factory rubber, a proper/standard revolver handhold leaves a big gap between the top of the backstrap and the web of my hand. If I choke up my handhold to close the gap, the gun is tilted in my hand. Then the trigger is almost on the inside...
