New Member? Introduce yourself here (just intros, questions get answered elsewhere)

Not a new member, but returning after several years away from the shooting scene. I just picked up a gun I've always wanted (CZ-75DB) and can't wait to get to the range. I do some .22 pistol and rifle plinking as well. Going to have to satisfy the shooting urge scanning these forums and...

    Shooting Indoors

I would definitely encourage you to create a shooting set-up, but would vote for air-pistol over firearm. I had a Baikal IZH-46M for a while and shot it in my basement. I made a pellet trap out of a frame of 2x4s and plumbers putty. I think the Daisy metal-box style traps are less than $30...

Why are 1911 triggers so revered?

I hadn't even thought of the straight-back versus pivoting trigger. That's interesting.

    Browning Buckmark

No, I dont think it's a legal issue (or there would surely be a non-MA/CA version). I think it has something to do with the cartridge itself.

Why are 1911 triggers so revered?

Is it shorter or lighter by design than other guns in SA mode? I'm not comparing it to DA or SAO triggers. I suppose the heavier-weight metal frames of 1911s also help the shooter capitalize on the trigger, reducing felt recoil and target re-acquisition time.

Why are 1911 triggers so revered?

Recently I've come across several references to the particularly crisp break of a 1911 trigger, such as in TheTruthAboutGuns' review of the Kimber Super Carry Pro HD, in which the author eloquently writes: Is there some inherent design advantage to the trigger mechanism on 1911s that makes...

Would you trust your life with a 380.

I've fired a few, but had the same thought - it's so close to 9mm in size and recoil, that why not use 9mm? So, no, can't say that I see a purpose for it.

    Browning Buckmark

No, don't think so, but you might try asking in the Browning forum over at Rimfirecentral.com.

    Why the objection?

    Was I in the wrong?

I agree with your response to his attitude and the situation. I would have done the same. One thought - perhaps he perceived the transfer you proposed to run afoul of ATF regs/inter-state transfers or the like; hence, he was saying "I run an upstanding business here; how dare you conduct...

What's the deal with steel-case ammo?

Thanks for that bit of info, wlewisiii. It hadn't even occurred to me to check this, as a friend of mine was told by Ruger that his jamming problems were caused by off-brand ammo and Ruger's tight tolerances. This was a large part of my hesitation to use it in the first place. . Good...

Rush Limbaugh goes off on 'Fast and Furious'

Would you mind sharing some details of what you're talking about for those of us who didn't hear this? What's the policy? What did he expose about it?

    30. Not sure which of your groups to select. Interesting age spread.

Tiny dovetails for scope on Remington 550-1

Thanks for your input, folks. Seemed like a pretty poor design to me, so glad to hear it's antiquated. I'll look into the options you have suggested.

Tiny dovetails for scope on Remington 550-1

Hi all. I'd like to mount a scope on a much-beloved Remington 550-1 semi-auto .22 in order to take it squirrel hunting this fall. The dovetail grooves on the receiver are quite shallow, and even having found the correct mounting rings, the scope won't sit still. I get it on and sighted in...

What's the deal with steel-case ammo?

Thanks for your replies. I found another source, this article on Box O' Truth, observing that steel case ammo does not appear to expand as much to form a seal in the chamber, allowing gasses to leak around the cartridge and foul the chamber, leading subsequent brass cases to get glued in place.

What's the deal with steel-case ammo?

So I put 100 rounds of 9mm Wolf steel-case ammo through my Ruger P95 at the range today. Seemed accurate enough for plinking, and no failures of any kind (never had one on the Ruger). Normally I shoot major brand brass case stuff, but went for it this time due to the price (about $10 per 50...

    Ruger P95 pro and cons?

I've got the stainless-slide version and think it's a lovely gun to look at and shoot. True, I don't carry it and am not sure how I could holster it at my job, which entails constant walking, bending and sqatting, without printing, but that's not why I bought it. I love it at the range, and as...

    Vermont Tactical International, LLC experiences?

Yeah, I don't have a lot to compare it to, but the prices seemed okay - $330 for a two-day "Defensive Handgun 1" course.

    Open Carry Funny/Sad at work

Folks who aren't part of the gun-community just aren't used to seeing people who aren't uniformed law enforcement or security personnel with guns. They are likewise much less likely to have any idea what the laws regarding carry are in their state. Open carry and concealed carry, both...
