    Muzzle break

The smallest effective brake would have to be Primary Weapons Systems TTO brake. I don't have one yet but is on my short list to pick up when I have the funds.

    A look at two rifles.

From the two choices I would choose the 308 with a 20" barrel. Shorter, lighter.

"Dissipator" style recommendations for a defensive weapon

Dissipator's Rock! I believe the dissipator style of upper in a1 or a2 configiration is a great concept for a fixed sited rifle. From my research the mid-gas verses carbine or rifle will be more reliable. Please post pics here of the rifle with details once obtained.

    AR scope recommendation

For the maximum distance your looking at a Weaver V3 1-3x 20mm would be perfect. Both eyes open at 1x and the scope only weighs 8 ounces and 9" in length. Scope should run well under $200.

What's the NEXT gun you're gonna buy?

Tikka T3 SS in 6.5X55. Already have the scope for it, a new Vortex Viper 2-7x32, at the price the scope was going for I could not pass it up.

    A Thunderbolt is fine too.

I have been considering one of these also and also look forward to reports from the great members of the high road.

AR-15 Noob in need of advice: Bushmaster 16" HBAR M4 Dissipator

I could not make up my mind on just one type of build. My first build was a 16" mid length flat top I built for my son. I am slowly putting together the parts for a three gun type of rifle with 18" SS barrel & VTAC free float tube. My last will be a dissapator type with A1 or A2 upper...

Which Rock River Arms AR??? They look mostly the same to me---

From what you descibe the 16" or the 18" varmint, some find the heavy barrel makes the rifle unbalanced. I have been looking at the 16" coyote carbine as it also has the free float handguard without the heavy barrel. RRA makes good stuff so I think you would be happy with any of their...

Which 5.56/.223 rifles will run steel cased ammo

I don't have any personel experience but I would think the Saiga in 223 as the AK designed rifle was built to run on steel case ammo.

    Bolt action rifles 2: 6.5x55

Well it looks like my orginal post has been closed. Just wanted to thank everyone for the useful information provided. My question was not intended to be on the merits of iron verses scoped rifles. To clarify I am not a new shooter. I have been shooting since I was eighteen (Dad believed...

Why no iron sights on bolt action?

Damm, three more posts, thanks for the info, this site is great and the responses were very informative. Looks like it would be better without the irons and just wait till I can afford both the rifle and the scope. May be awhile as raising teenagers takes all of my extra coin. Thanks again!

Why no iron sights on bolt action?

Thanks for the quick response and info guys. I was looking at the Savage rifles that have iron sights and are ready for scope rings. I just like the idea of being able to use the rifle until I can afford a quality scope for it but don't want to regret getting the irons if they will pose any...

Why no iron sights on bolt action?

I am looking to buy my first centerfire bolt action rifle and while looking I see that the majority of the bolt actions have no iron sights. Is it a weight reduction thing? Do they hinder the ability to use a scope? Seems to me they may be necessary if the scope does fail.

Elk the best. Sheep & goat only if cooked in a pit.

Which of these 3 home defense carbines for girlfriend?

Either 45 would be my choice. Take her to the range and have her try the ones you have. Only she will find the one most comfortable for her. My young son prefers my Marlin cowboy in 45 with the cowboy loads over the 10-22.

What's Your Best Gun Deal Ever?

I picked up a used 22 pump rifle for $50. Found out a couple of months later that it was a Winchester 1890 and worth between 400 to 800.

    SKS Paratrooper Price Check.

Looks like a great price for the SKS chinese paratrooper, they go for around $400 around here. The standard model goes for about $300. I have both and would recomend you pick it up for that price if they still have it.
