Yeah, I'd advise against him getting a Hi-Point also, don't want him to get a sub $200 .45 that just plain works and has the best warranty in the business..... Now, if he's looking for something to carry, yeah, Hi-Point wouldn't be the best.

Good call on the range guns, I'd steer clear of those for sure. In my experience though, I'd love to get the "Hi-Point" of 1911's, that means it'd go bang for me every time, haha, J/K. Mine have been flawless, but definitely don't see SD/HD time, just plinkers at the range....

I do, I've got a PF9 and P11 that have been flawless from the gate. Some require a little "fluff and buff" on the feed ramp, but that doesn't turn me off whatsoever. They are a less-expensive gun, but not CHEAP at all. Just my .02
