I think you will be fine with that rifle and bullet. I Just killed an elk at 365 yrds with a 200 grn accubond muzzel vol. 2800 fps.
"They" say you need 2000 Ft Lbs of energy to consitanlty kill elk with a rifle. Find out how far that is for your gun and go from there.
BTW, the bullet went...
Hard to beat a 700. Nice lookin gun. The one I shoot is nearly 40 years old and still will put my handload in less than .75 inch consistanly at 100 yards
Extra ammo in the butt trap :)
The scope mounts are for a 10/22
To be honest I drilled and attemped to tap the recever. The tiny little tap broke so I opened the holes a little more and used JB weld to epoxy the mount to the gun. I put scews down in the over sized holes thinking It might...
I just fixed up this old Romanian M69 trainer. Its gonna be my new squirrel and plinking gun. Panted the stock with multi color textured rustolium and put my dads old redfield 2-7 on top. I have not had a chance to do any serious group shooting but I do know that it will smack a coke can at 30...
Midway might not always have the best prices, sometimes they do sometimes they don’t. But they are such a pleasure to deal with that I will give them an extra dollar or two on small ticket items. Love the fast shipping! And that’s the way it is!
Im Bryant from Alabama. Love hunting and shooting. Shotguns, rifles and pistols. Prob. shot more shotshells than anything. Just got into handloading for my rifles and it has really sparked my intrest in getting them as acurate as possible. NRA member. I just got my CCW permit for the first time.
You can load it down to 75 grians for coyotes and small varmits. 100 to 120 grains will kill any whitetail, muley or pronghorn. Some will argue that it can is a sufficent elk cartige. Very versitle in my opinion.
I love mine. Its a 30 plus year old rem 700. stock and will shoot between .5 to .75 inch groups at 100 yard consitanly. sight it in at 200 and it will drop any deer that you put the cross hairs on at that distance. will easly perform out to 350 on deer and probly farther if you can hold it right.
For a varmit/target rifle.
I am sure that this horse has been beat to death long ago but I thought I would ask yall
What are the pros and cons of these calibers.
Barrel Life?
Ballistics? speed, drop, wind drift
cost to shoot with reloads?
I guess that I will play it safe and not mess with the bedding. I think that I will get a old gun and try to learn how to glass bed with it. I have an old military trainer .22 that would be a good candidate.
my groups are with handloads.
I would not think that bedding the action could hurt anything, could it?
I quess the real question is to freefloat or not.
It is a hunting rifle, and i dont really think that it will make much differnce in the preformace of the rifle as far as killing a deer. But, I am sorta on a quest to see how accurate this rifle will shoot, just for the fun of it. Plus it might make some difference on a 400 yard shot!
I have older rem model 700 bdl 25-06. it is basicly stock the way it came from the factory. the barrel is not free floated, the stock contacts it at the end of the forearm.
I want to glass bed the action. do you think free floating the barrel will help accuracy? I know it would with a bull...
