    Cross eye dominant.

Am I the only one who looked at Rondog's M1 photo and thought "wow, that kid better watch his right thumb" when seeing his hand's proximity to the bolt?

What to use to shine up a stock?

I've used Tom's 1/3 Mix on military stocks and it looks great. http://www.thegunstockdoctor.com/

2 shots accidentally fired at Mt. Clemens gun show; 3 hurt

What I would like to know is how often loaded firearms actually make it into the show. Of course, we will never know this, but I suspect it "happens all the time" and that negligent discharges are a very very small fraction of the loaded weapons that make it to the table at gun shows...

Age to buy a TC Encore Rifle Frame

That conversion comment... Definitely call the atf and be sure to get any reply on paper. I'm pretty sure that converting an encore rifle into pistol configuration is technically a felony, like it or not. It may be as simple as buy the handgun stocks and put the short barrel on in the real...

California airsoft guns need to be painted or clear

+1 on not acting as though you are shooting someone with a realistic looking gun in a public place.

    Hinky gunshop practices

Gloob, glad you chimed in. Cost plus pricing is a loser's game. Prices should reflect value in the market, not what the store paid for its inventory. Not saying the store was in the right, just saying that the argument that a shop ought to only price based on inventory cost or cost to...

    Your "quality" tolerance

Different strokes for different folks, but I don't think that a brand new gun that eats its own parts twice within 100 rounds is "acceptable" if I'm able to replace the small parts and go fire away. That's a problem. This particular unit had some kind of issue with alignment or otherwise...

    Your "quality" tolerance

Update... I just received from S&W a brand new PPS. I've got to hand it to S&W, they have a great CS function. I somehow ended up with a lemon that kept eating itself, and they replaced it without so much as a protest from me. It has taken a while (they were having a delay on parts for the...

    Your "quality" tolerance

Details... Great responses, all. Thanks. Since you ask: Walther PPS .40 S&W. Bought new in November after contemplating and saving up for quite a while. During first range session, the slide stop lever failed (read that: The metal hook to the spring inside the handgun frame...

    Your "quality" tolerance

Folks, First, how many times would you return a (bought new in box) firearm to the manufacturer before giving up? Second, what is proper recourse for a firearm that has two functional failures (broken parts, not ftf or fte) within 100 rounds of being taken out of the box? Is there a...

    Anyone else keep their guns?

Selling... When I was about 21 (15 years ago now), I brought several long guns to a local gun shop with the thought that I would sell them. Several had been given to me as gifts and had seen a lot of use (but also a lot of care) during my teenage years; but I had this idea that money would be...

Alabama Carry Laws Question -- Update

Yeah, opinions on reasons for carrying would technically be thread drift. THAT would be a travesty on THR. Still a little advice as to when deadly force is warranted could prevent a disaster for someone with a misconception about it any day. Particularly someone who is looking to carry a...

Alabama Carry Laws Question -- Update

Interesting. Why no commentary about the OP's purchasing a handgun to "prevent" petty theft? How does that fit with the notion of self defense?

    Scope Dilemma: Your opinions wanted...

Yes, this is one of those things I'd call a "high class problem" now that you mention it.

    Scope Dilemma: Your opinions wanted...

Nice job Unc. Interesting that no one has mentioned the objective lens size. That seems to be the most substantive difference between the two scopes, and I'm not even sure if it is a really substantive one, not having a lot of experience with these things myself.

    Scope Dilemma: Your opinions wanted...

Actually, the eye relief comment is a very helpful one. Pretty sure the Leupold has longer eye relief. And, yes, the Encore has a substantial recoil pad on it. :)

    Scope Dilemma: Your opinions wanted...

Hey Folks: My first substantive post, and all just for fun. I'm trying to think through trade-offs for scoping a couple of rifles, and would love to hear opinions on what to do with what I've got. Here's what I've got: 2 scopes: Scope 1 is a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40MM Scope 2 is a...
