    M16 vs. M4

Bingo. Plus the other poster who noted that the extra wear and tear of the carbine will result in less longevity.

    Best internet B/S lines.

Saw a funny argument at ar15.com about barrel length that went something like this: Person A: Barrel length only helps velocity. Shorter barels are more accurate. Person B: So flatter trajectories and better wind bucking don't help at long range? Person A: No. The shorter the barrel...

    Bolting Safes to Foundation... Advice?

When choosing what kind of anchor to use be sure to consider which ones will make your safe a permanent fixture (ie you won't be able to move it when you get a new house). I like drop in anchors - they're super solid, and moving is no problem.

Sturdy gun safe review, good and bad (warning, it's long!)

Heeler- Yep, the Amsec BF series is great. I had a tough time deciding between the two, and I agree that I'd have been very pleased either way. RM- The model I got was the 3224. Sturdy's naming convention is easy - the model 3224 is 32.5" wide by 24.5" deep. With the fire lining installed...

Sturdy gun safe review, good and bad (warning, it's long!)

I just received a Sturdy safe on Monday, and I figured I'd post a review. When I was researching different safes I found threads like this one from years back that were very helpful, so hopefully this will help researchers for years to come. It's long, but it addresses some of the things I...

    AR mag issue

Took a look at my Bushmaster manual, and yep, the troubleshooting section called for the adjustment I mentioned earlier. Turn the catch clockwise to tighten. Tighten it a little and the few mags that are unusable will become usable. Don't overtighten or the others might become unusable.

Peep Sights. Can you Recommend them?

iamkris's post (#7) with the graphics was great and shows exactly what we were trained to do in the Marines, with a couple small additions. We were trained to mechanically adjust the sights so that they lined up on the center (rather than bottom) of the target. The center mass sight picture is...

    AR mag issue

If I remember correctly, you can press the mag release button in extra far, then on the other side of the receiver - that bar that gets pressed out when the mag release button gets pressed in - you can spin the bar clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust for more or less mag tension. I think...

300 Win Mag vs. .30-06...Which would you choose?

Great graphic Krochus!!! Illustrates how close the two are ballistically (athough it's all subjective - I guess some might say how far apart they are :)), and illustrates the principle of flatter trajectories being more forgiving if range estimation is off. Informative addition!

    Stock refinish....

Here comes a can of worms... IF IT'S AN OIL FINISH Easy Off oven cleaner. I have just seriously upset some people who believe Easy Off has no place in a refinisher's tool box. But there are credible sources that advocate it. I first learned about it from a gunsmithing book no less...

    Taking Back the Infantry Half-Kilometer

Not to change the thread topic, but I have to point out a minor correction to the media's misinformation of the public. There is no his/her regarding infantry - it's male only. If/when that changes, standby for serious problems and degraded standards. I am NOT a proponent of inequality or a...

300 Win Mag vs. .30-06...Which would you choose?

Yes, there is a distance advantage to the 300 win mag. The added velocity means flatter trajectory, which is more forgiving of small ranging errors. It also means the bullet is less effected by the wind. But these accuracy advantages really only come in to play at LONG distances, way way...

    M1 Garand Newbie

There is a book series called "For Collectors Only" and they have a book called "M1 Garand 1936 to 1957" written by Joe Poyer and Craig Riesch. Not only does it have dissassembly/assembly/maintenance info, but it shows the different variants of EVERY part in the rifle and tells which parts were...

    Bushmaster XM-15

I have a standard Bushmaster XM-15 A2 type. I've put about 4,000 rounds through it. Had a couple jams very early on that were due to the mag I was using. Ditched the mag, not a hiccup since. So great reliability. As far as accuracy, I can get half inch five shot groups at 100 yards with my...
