Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

    .270 or .308

I suppose I don't have much to add to what's already been said but I own and shoot rifles in both calibers (as well as the .30-06 which is what I'd personally recommend for a "do it all" rifle). They're both great calibers and, IMHO, capable of everything we have to offer on this continent (at...

25/06 Nosler Ballistic tip 114 gr

OldRook - did you get 100% penetration on all six shots? I assume not since you recovered a couple of the bullets but was curious. Thanks!

    Recomend a powder.

I use Varget for my son's .308 (shooting 165 gr Sierra GameKings out of Winchester Brass using WLR primers) and it works wonderfully!

    Savage 11 7mm-08 Question

I don't own or shoot a 7mm-08 but was curious if you've ever heard of or tried a "ladder test" for load development. You can read the details/theory of ladder testing at http://mikeswillowlake.com/ladder%20test.htm (or check out the THR thread at...

30-06: I'm confused about bullet nominclature and loads...

I've experienced similar conflicts in the past. I was told that Hodgdon and Sierra are the only two that actually do their own pressure testing (don't know if that's true or not) and that I can ALWAYS trust the Hodgdon website first. Bottom line...I always start pretty low and work my way up...

    Tikka

Wow! I seem to be the only one that doesn't like the Tikka. I've never shot one but have heard that they're typically very accurate and a good value. I've handled several and just don't like the way they look or feel. It must be a personal thing. Here's an interesting article about them...

    rifle barrel length

Velocity - Agreed. The shorter barrel does give up some velocity (have seen debates ranging from 25 fps/inch to 90 fps/inch...the truth is probably somewhere in the middle). Recoil - Not so sure. The length of the barrel should not have a substantial impact on recoil unless you're accounting...

Need to find a good LGS near Puyallup WA

I lived in Issaquah, WA until very recently and did most of my business with Dan Cowen (224 Wells Avenue South, Renton, WA 98057: 425-227-9280) I realize that it isn't IN Puyallup but I promise...it's worth the drive. He's a fine gentleman and a damn good smith.
