Hello guys,

I have a quick question. Is anyone running a fixed 10 power mildot scope? I am looking to buy one for my rem700. I would like to spend between $500-$700 bucks but would consider basically anything up to $1000. Just thought I'd ask around to see if anyone has some experiences, good or bad.

I bet you could get a used USO fixed 10 for under a grand or right about that. Top notch stuff there.

Another one you could look at is an SWFA HD fixed 10, which is a very nice scope. Even the non hd swfa 10 is nice at a much lower price. I have used both. Either scope will track consistently, but the glass is much better on the HD.

Bushnell makes a fixed 10 mil dot that is worth a look too.

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x on my 10/22 target rifle. It has the Mil-Dot reticle and one model has 1/10 Mil adjustments. They are $250 at Midway but the 1/10 Mil adjustment one is currently on sale for $199. I love this scope.

I know it is well below your price range, but IMO it is a solid scope.

This scope is complete overkill on my .22 but it is fun for shooting stuff off the 200 yard berm at the local public range. I have read reviews of this scope being used on rifles all the way up to .50's.

$1K is not a bottom basement budget. Super Sniper 10X HD. As mentioned, USO on the used market. There are also some variables that you could consider, like the Vortex PST 10X or a used Nightforce 2.5-10X32.

I do like the little Bushnell 3200 10X, but with your budget, I'd look for better.

I had a bushnell 3-9 mildot scope on my old rifle but I sold it as a package. Can't remember what model. Anyways, I no complaints at all except that I don't like adjustable power scopes. I am actually quite intrigued on the 3200 after reading some reviews. TonyAngel, would you be able to contrast the Bushnell glass with anything better? I am absolutely not opposed to a $200 dollar scope if the quality is good and it will last. $500 would buy a lot of practice ammo. Or a new sight for my AK. Or...hahahaha.

Anyways, thanks for the replies. I need to get researching.

Well, the little Bushnell 10X is sort of in league all of it's own. The glass is good, meaning that I can use the scope without my eyes getting fatigued really quickly and the adjustments are repeatable; but when compared to more expensive scopes, you get into better glass and a more robust build. For the price, the Bushnell 10X is hard to be; but spending more money can get you better.

As I said, I like the little Bushnell, but I'd take a SS 10X HD over the Bushnell anyday. Even the standard SS 10X had noticeably better glass and a heavier build with knobs that had a more positive feel to them.

Hey thanks for the quick reply!

It seems like the SS is sold out. I went through a few google pages without seeing more than reviews (all good btw).

That HD really is a heck of a scope.

FWIW I have a standard SWFA SS 10 on my 22 right now (lots of elevation in that scope) that sat on top my ar50 for over a year (and about 200 rounds) and on a 308 for a while before that. It got drug around outside and in the dirt quite a bit and survived more than a few bumps and bruises.

Dan, if you have your head and heart set on a 10X and are willing to go up to $1K, I would suggest that you try to find a used 2.5-10X32 Nightforce. Finding one with a mildot reticle and matching knobs shouldn't be hard to do. All of the scopes that have been mentioned are nice scopes, but the Nightforce is really an unbeatable package in terms of glass quality, robustness of build and knobs.

SS is SWFA's house brand. They have a few 10X models.

Bushnell discontinued the 3200. There is an Elite 10x40 now, probably the same scope with better coatings.

SWFA site shows the closed-out 3200 10X40 available for $130 with a pair of rings.

I have the Bushnell elite 3200 in fixed 10x and it is a good scope, especially for under $200. Take a look at the Sightron 10x fixed and 16x fixed...I believe they are the same price. I have a Sightron 20x fixed and it has very good glass and outstanding tracking. I paid $550 with free shipping from Opticsplanet.com. BTW I have used both the Bushnell and the Sightron at 500 yard F-class competitions and had comparable results with both. I find the Sightron to be a better scope overall, and for almost 3 times the $$$ it should be. A friend has the SWFA SS in 10x and it is also an outstanding value as stated above.

Thanks for all the responses everybody. I am going to go with either the Nightforce or the Super Sniper. I think it will depend on what kind of deal I can get on the nightforce. I actually had to spend a bit out of my "scope savings fund" so I am debating buying that blowout bushnell (even if it isn't mil-mil) and getting my dream scope in about a month. Then I can scope shuffle the bush to a different, currently very cheaply scoped, .308 I have. Hmmmmmm....

danweasel,

If you haven't already checked out the opticsthoughts.com site, you might find it interesting.

I'd opt for the SS that is fixed at 10x, I like fixed powers better, less to worry about. And that link I posted shows them in stock, especially the HD one which was recommended by someone else. They have the others in stock too.
