    Weatherby PA-459 puzzle

I recently purchased a Weatherby PA-459 12 gauge pump. I've shot it a few times and done some tinkering, and have it set up so that it suits me pretty well. The gun comes with a short length of rail mounted ahead of the ghost ring sight. I have no plans to mount anything on the rail, so I...

Spitzer Bullets in a Model 94, Just Wondering

My uncle has a 25-35 Model 94 that he uses as a 2 shot, loaded with 87 grain spitzers.

    Custom Squirrel Rifle

My squirrel gun. Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel, Weaver 6X scope, Fajen synthetic stock, trigger job. Weighs just under six pounds with scope and sling. Slung muzzle down, it's out of the way tucked in behind my arm, with the muzzle beside my knee. Shoots well under 1/2" groups at 50 yards...

    Ruger Scout, Canadian version

Think that they are also sold in Australia. Still, I wish they would ship a batch to Bud's. Shut up and take my money.

    Ruger Scout, Canadian version

Stainless steel, no flash hider, and an 18" barrel. Same overall length. This is the one I want. Wonder if they will sell it here.

Cheap .35 Remington... does it exist somewhere

I shoot mine a lot, but then I load a cast bullet plinking round for it. 158 grain .358 round nose flat point commercial cast bullet made for the .357 magnum, 10 grains of Unique. About 12 cents a shot, takes me about an hour to load 100 rounds.

    Best Truck Gun

Never owned a truck personally, but my uncle who used to farm in central Missouri kept a Remington 788 in .222 topped with a Weaver K8 in his back window rack. Kept the magazine in one of the bib pockets of his overalls, next to the can of Prince Albert.

    Cock on close- why not?

I was talking with my uncle a few years ago, who is a hunter and target shooter and collector of long experience. One of his buddies is a gun writer, and often my uncle has access to his demo guns. Uncle was talking about shooting one of the new T/C bolt actions, and he mentioned that he liked...

    MARLIN 39 Carbine???

The 16" gun is known as the 39 TDS, for take down special. They came with a little case for packing the rifle when taken down into the two halves. $500 is a terrific bargain for one of those in good condition, as they are very rare and much sought after. $700-900 is more in line with what I've...

    Cock on close- why not?

I've always wondered why no one has made a bolt action rifle that cocks as you pull the bolt back. It seems like that would be the time to do it. The cocking effort would be pulling the gun into your shoulder rather than pushing it away.

What are the chances of finding 32 rimfire ammo?

My uncle had several boxes of it, and we shot some several years ago. Don't know just how old the ammo was, but uncle had a system. He would take two boxes and sort out the ones sitting bullet down in the box to shoot, and the ones sitting bullet up to put back and make up one full box...

"Saving one" in the chamber: competitive shooting

I do this all the time when shooting 10/22s. One of mine in particular will put the first hand chambered round about 1/2" out of the group at 50 yards. If I want to shoot good groups, I waste the first round into the berm, then keep track and don't let it go dry. Of course, I'm only loading...

    Ruger 10/22 and misfires

You might check the hammer spring strut assembly. There is a C shaped washer at the back end that retains the hammer spring and acts as the the rear support for the assembly. The assembly needs to be installed with the notch in the washer facing up. With it facing down, the hammer strut can...

    Mossberg 500 5+1 Pics

That's my little beast. Basic 500 combo gun, with an 18.5" rifle sighted barrel. Comes up to the shoulder with the sights all lined up for me. Pretty nice buckshot patterns at indoor ranges, and amazingly accurate out at 50 yards or more with slugs. And it looks like a hunting gun, not some...

    Complete my 10/22

Volquartsen or Power Custom hammer, or stone the factory hammer as per the instructions you'll find on rimfire central. Either will give you a 2-3 pound pull, though with some creep and overtravel. There are lots more things you can do to the trigger, but the hammer is 90% of the improvement...

Putting Tech Sights on a 10/22. How Hard?

The only trick to know is that in taking out the old sights, you go left to right, the right side of the gun being the ejection port side. There is a slight taper to the dovetail, and they only go one way. As others have said, getting them started can be a trick. The main thing is to secure...

Keltecs new 14 shot bullpup shotgun (neostead revived!)

Out of curiosity, I got out the kitchen scale and loaded it up with seven 00 buckshot loads and seven rifled slugs. The total weight came out to just under 21 ounces. That's actually a little less than I expected.

Anyone shoot shortened 410 shells out of a 45 colt pistol

I've used the Speer .44 shot capsules, and they are excellent. According to my notes, a .44 capsule full of #8 weighs a scooch over 150 grains, and the payload amounts to about 125 pellets. I used a couple of tenths less powder charge of HP-38 than it says in the Speer manual. No leading, and...
