I don't load up to far ahead. My main reason is because if ya sell the rifle you have ammo loaded for,and the buyer doesn't want your handloads. It's much easier to sell components than it is reloads. Besides it doesn't take but a short time to load more if needed.
I found I had some bluedot so I worked up a load with that, not the greatest but not bad for this rifle. 16gr,cci350,240 xtp, just under 2"@ 75yds. I also found while looking through my new sierra manual that they list a load for the 240gr using greendot.
start load 7.9gr,max 9.4gr these loads...
I have this one that I'm going to sell since switching to stainless. I used it for 3yrs and it works good $50 plus shipping. I have have used media which is still good that could go with it for the shipping cost, probably large flat rate box...
I use mag primers with the ball powder, with the 2400 I did use reg. primers first and no difference. I've got about 20 different powders seems like something would work. Hate to buy another pound to find it doesn't work either but may have to. My brother has some blazer ammo which aint the best...
I'm going through this issue now with my brothers rifle. This thing is by far the worse I've came accross. I tried the 250gr ftx and 2400 I would get 2 or 3 to group out of 5. I then tried 240xtp with 2400 and same thing. I just now switched over to imr 4227 and at 30 yds I had 1 ragged...
Check your local scrap yards. There are 3 near where I live that buy lead so they would probably sell it also. Wish I would have seen this last week cause friday I sold 199 lbs to the highest paying yard. $.50 a lb. If ya find some that needs shipping have them use the flat rate boxes. Ya can...
An all around good looking accurate rifle. Of the 3 I have my 284win gets the most use. My 270win gets out at times also but my 280 medallion is to pretty to take out much, had it out 1 time in the last 14yrs and it shoots crazy accurate. They all do.
The way I have always determinded dominance is to extend your arms forward and with your thumbs and forefingers form a diamond, slowly bring the diamond to your face and it will naturally draw to your dominant eye.
A standard pool skimmer attached to a small piece of 4x4 an sat on the bench near the action works good also. I did this for years and now they sell them on the market.
