    The big N Frames

Adjust your clothing choices for improved concealment. Roomy untucked shirts and/or a light sport coat work wonders, and can make you the best dressed man in WalMart.

    10-5 trigger stuck in frame

See the spring at the front of the cyinder stop? Try to take pressure off the cylinder stop by compressing that spring with something, maybe a tiny screwdriver, and see if that will free things up. You can see that the cylinder stop should be free to move forward, but it's blocked by spring...

You've Come a Long Way, Baby...

My first instruction to folks when teaching them to shoot is, "Forget everything you have seen and heard about guns on TV and in the movies. They don't handle firearms safely."

    stuck plunger

Just curious if you ever determined what the problem was?

    Good starting load.

I cannot tell you where I read it, but as I recall the starting load in grains of 2F/3F powder should be 1.5 times the bore diameter in inches, which would be (1.5X50=75) 75 grains of black powder. I recall reading that some old gunmakers would spread a sheet on the ground in front of their...

    Digital Trigger Gauge

I have used a food scale to measure trigger pull also. I hung a ziplock plastic bag on the trigger (poke the trigger through the upper corner of the bag). Cock the gun and hold it vertically and then pour lead shot (yeah, I was reloading shotshells at the time) into the bag until the trigger...

    Thompson Center Arms SOLD

All my muzzleloader deer have been taken with T/C rifles; a Renegade and a Hawken. Love 'em! Hope the company can continue to give shooters unique choices.

    Is Hodgedon's Pyrodex P

Yes. Hodgdon RS for "rifle/shotgun" (2F) Hodgdon P for "pistol" (3F). But I used RS for everything.

Dillon 550 was also my first choice in 1998. I also have no regrets.

    stuck plunger

Remove the plunger. Then stroke the loading lever. Does it bind? If so, figure out where it's binding. If the loading lever operates smoothly without the plunger, then dress down the plunger's diameter with sandpaper until operation is easy. The plunger just pushes the ball into the...

how did it start for you?

I learned to read by watching the dialogue bubbles in the cowboy comic books as my mother read to me. She also read Zane Grey novels to me at bedtime. Destry Rides Again, Riders Of The Purple Sage. The first word I wrote on my toy blackboard was "BANG". My grandparents were Randolph Scott...

    Another bite at the apple?

I won a CZ 2075 RAMI P at a shooting match, and in a state of madness swapped it for an old Marlin 39 .22LR at a gunshow. The Marlin was crap, I got rid of it and will never own another. I bought another CZ RAMI new, locally. It sleeps beside me.

If you could have only one pistol?

Late to the party, sorry. In my 80 years, I have never had to defend myself with a gun. So while self defense is important, for me at least shooting for fun is the main consideration. It would be very hard for me to turn loose of my 1981 S&W Model 18:

#1 Rolling Block in .32-20 WCF

I'm ignorant about rolling blocks. You said it's pre-1899; any idea when it was actually made? Congratulations on a beautiful addition to your collection.

Something Old Something New ( E63)

I know that muzzleloading rifles for round balls have slower rifling twists. Is the same true for percussion revolvers intended for round balls? 45 Dragoon's comment about the fast twist (1:15) makes me curious. Would this beautiful Uberti perform better with balls or conicals? Or would you...

    How to value reloading equipment.

Primers and powder should move quickly if priced at 90% of present retail. Used equipment: don't overlook the possibility of trades. If a friend has something you like, offer to swap your equipment and maybe even a little cash to boot. Worst he can say is "No".
