    Variable Load/Filler Experiment

I was asked once by Joe why I don't post many things here. This is one of the reasons. First of all I do not use words like 'quantify' and such. The response I was making was for Joe's shooting style. Have you shot with him at a range? I have. Joe shoots standing up and mostly with one hand. My...

    Variable Load/Filler Experiment

Joe, Rather than resting the weapon on the sandbag, rest your hand on the bag. By resting the barrel on the bag you are allowing the weapon's recoil to be altered. Thus changing the POI as to your POA. That is why with my long guns I never use a sandbag to shoot or sight in. There is no...

    Speaking of conversions

It's times like this that I question why I even bother to log on this forum. Think I'll go to another that is less "intense" in it's approach to a reasonable question.... Adios....

    To Shoot or To Type----SHOOT!!!

Joe, Pop that durby on your noggin' and go bust come caps! I was at my range this mornin' with my old M&P burin' up some loads and not hittin' squat at 25, but who cares? I was shootin' anyhow! Go shoot!! Wade

Laser Cast Bullets for 45-70 trapdoor?

Don't think you'll be happy Those bullets are hard cast and the lube they use is a hard lube that will be worthless with black powder. If it were me, I'd thank my dad and cast me some soft alloy bullets and lube them with the proper lube for BP cartridge. If you load them as they are, you will...

Who likes HS-6, and what are your favorite loads?

HS6 is fun for me as I get great performance in the .38Spl and the .45-70! I shoot a reduced load with a 300 gr RNFP in the .45-70 and HS6 with a LRP to spark it off. I'm at at work so I don't have my loading data handy, but HS6, when taken up the ladder from starting to near max, shows very...

Paper Cartridges: Best Rolling Paper Brands

Lunie, You found the right one there. The Buglar paper does fit right. Price is right too. Your system sounds interesting. Myself, I use a copper tube that is of near ball diameter and set the ball on the end of the tube. Wrap the paper where is just snugs up to the ball and seal it with a...

Anybody here use Oxphp-Blu (brownells products)

In well over 35 years of gunsmithing the only cold blue I used for touchups was Oxpho Blue. By far the best cold blue on the market. Recently had my own Marlin 1895G showing signs of wear from some over zealous cleaning. I simply hit the metal with some M-Pro 7 cleaner and then I used a big wad...

    Revolver versus Autoloader...

Lunie. What was that fine white powder you put on your cornflakes this morning??? It sure didn't look like sugar! :) Better give that stuff back to the "Street Vendor" you bought it from!! ;) Wade

    Need something to catch lead

I took two 3/8" plates and slid them back to back into 45 degree slots in a wooded trap. It was fine with a 36 Navy and such, but when I was hitting it with the .45-70, it came apart like a cheap suit in a rain storm!! Never shot my .50 into it....I gave up until I could find thicker steel. The...

.38 HBWC loaded backwards--do they stabilize?

Back when I was a fulltime cop, fulltime gunsmith, and ammo mfg., I had several officers requesting that I build such a load for them. I had told them that the bullet would be keyholing before they knew it and that it was more of a novelity than a usable load. But I built the load for those that...

    Thrown off the skeet range!

I agree that a law suit would be a bad thing for the other shooters that use the range. As so well put above, law suits of light grievance would possibly threaten to shut down another range. But I sure would make it known to MANY folks that they have some ridiculous rules that often are made up...

    Thrown off the skeet range!

I understand the issue. Long ago when my eyes were good, I was a member of a local shooting club that had a range in an old gravel pit. Every year they would have a "Turkey Shoot" involving any rifle of your choice and we'd shoot 100 yds standing at a paper target of a, you guessed it, turkey...

Spiller & Burr ready to be a trotline weight!

H H, You're not going to believe this!! Well I was half right....it was hand related, but not to the hand itself! I went and dug that thing out and studied it like I had not seen it before. I went back to the old school method. As I was pondering how much to remove off the top, it dawned on...

Spiller & Burr ready to be a trotline weight!

H H, It is the hand. The bolt functions perfect. The hand is advancing the cylinder far beyond proper index and will not come into battery as it should under the nipple. My father had cut the original hand far too short and that was what caused him to put the thing up years ago. And as I...

A visit from one of our own

Yesterday non other than the infamous Foto Joe, and Mrs. Foto Joe came to my little hideout in the woods for a visit! Now of course, my dogs thought that they had come to visit them, and I couldn't get a word in edgewise;) But we burned some powder. Joe and his wife deposited some lead into the...

Spiller & Burr ready to be a trotline weight!

Won't hurt my feelings at all. However, there are a few S&B fans that might get their feathers ruffled a might:) But I suppose that's why there are so many different weapons out there. Everyone has a favorite. That's what makes this so much fun for us all. Really, if one thinks about it, if...

Remington New Army vs. Colt 1860 Army

No more polls for this guy Well, I have decided that these polls are an invitation to, as junkman_1 put it as a pissing match. So in the the future when I see a poll come up in this forum, I think I'll pass and not open it. I have better things to do than read where this guy says this is great...

    Guns IN THE SHOWER!!!

One question..... Did you go out into the woods straight from the shower? Bet the neighbors had a thrill!

    Totally politically incorrect

It is not odd in any way. I practice on little stuffed animals with my recurve bow a bunch. Makes one very good at hitting rabbits at any range! I thought that was what stuffed animals were for anyway, right? :)
