So you hear a noise, now what?

Pistol in a gunvault in the nightstand, flashlight and cellphone on top of it. I've only sprung out of bed and grabbed the gun one time, and it turned out to be for a cat/dog/possum/raccoon (we're country mice) knocking over our outside garbage can, but that pretty much stopped the questions of...

    642 Club Part Three

Took my wife to the range a couple days ago. She tried both of my semi autos and my 642. I think she was a little scared of the .38 for a minute- she needed a little time to understand why simple can be better. After we got done, though, I think she came to like it best of all of them.

First gun purchase (9mm) - Need assistance - Thank you for your help.

Not sure if it's been mentioned- a lightweight pistol will recoil more than a heavy one. In 9mm it's not that noticeable, but my Beretta (heavy, pretty much a full size) kicks way less than the couple of Glocks, etc. that I have shot. For a budget of $1500 I would likely be looking at more...

Crowd of 30 teens attacks couple in Norfolk

I had to explain just the other day how extending the old Boy Scout "Be Prepared" motto to carrying a pistol doesn't mean "Be Prepared - to shoot somebody-" it actually means "Be Prepared to run like hell, but have a backup plan." Not condoning a mob of teenagers throwing rocks at somebody on...

I think my home possibly got probed for burglary or a home invasion...

OK, maybe I was being a little hyperbolic re: making them illegal. I'm serious when I say there's no call for door to door sales, though. In this day and age, I don't want people on my property, AT ALL, unless I know who they are, what their business is, and there's been an appointment made for...

    642 Club Part Three

Range report from day 1 with my new 642: I need some work figuring out how to shoot this thing right. Close enough for what it is intended for, though, with most of my groups being paper-plate sized at 6-7 yards. Concerned about the occasional flier that I have, though- can absolutely tell...

I think my home possibly got probed for burglary or a home invasion...

The "friendly neighborhood Kirby salesman" started his presentation for me a year or so back by handing me a can of Febreze. Our encounter took place under our carport, so he never came in my house, but I was pretty rude to him anyway. Door to door sales should be against the law. There's no...

New toys today- in the name of balance in the universe I'm dropping this here, just like I dropped the same pic in the revolver forum. :D

    642 Club Part Three

You buncha enablers started me looking at 642s about a year ago. Today I bought one. It's got a lock, but if it gives me any trouble it'll come out. I did WANT a no-lock one, but they are tough to come by and this is what was in the case at the local store. Its cousin the...

My Latest Rebuild, a 1911 from SCRATCH

If it's the first one you did, A) you did a hell of a job, and B) I'd keep it just for that. That said, getcha an FFL and part-time some other ones. Nice work.

Carry Your Gun, 14 Mar 2012, Tacoma, WA

Breaks my heart to read these. I've been preaching the Eddie Eagle stuff at my boys since they were old enough to even halfway get it, but that doesn't cover 2-year-olds, and "cover" is the wrong word anyway, especially when mom and dad make such incredibly poor decisions. RIP little ones.

Rolled the dice on one rough Taurus...

Nice snag. I also think it looks good as is- character is cool. I've been looking at the cheapo taurus 82 former-duty-guns that jgsales.com has at the moment for a few weeks, but I can't make myself jump without handling one.

My ffl says no more Buds Gun Shop transfers

I asked at a local shop yesterday what their transfer policy was. $35 if they don't have it in stock (actual words were "if we don't sell it..." so, room for interpretation there...), $50 if they do. I thought that was fair. It might keep me coming back, they get a cushion to keep me from...

    The 336 Club

Went and checked out a local fishing store yesterday with a coworker. I didn't realize the sheer volume of hunting gear/ guns they'd have, or i'da been in there a lot earlier. While he was off looking at lures, I spent some time looking at a couple of 336's, some with scope, some without...

    Beretta

I have a 92fs Centurion. It was a police trade-in that I picked up a year or so back. Looks rough on the outside, but is clean on the inside (candidate for a spray of duracoat one of these days...). Shoots great, though, and has eaten any ammo I've put in it without issue.

    Stoeger Cougar .40 cal

From the pictures, looks mostly the same as my Beretta 92, at least outside the slide. I'm curious how they work inside, with the rotating barrel and all. That said, getting the slide off to field strip should be very easy. Detail stripping with the slide-mounted safety/decocker is generally...

    New S&Ws for my kids

Daytime home security for stay at home mom?

Thanks for the replies- I didn't realize there was any kind of training facility anywhere nearby, so that's a plus. I've seen the corneredcat site before, but I'm sure she hasn't- I'll send her that way.

Daytime home security for stay at home mom?

My wife is suddenly interested in firearms. After years of mistrust, I get an email from her yesterday that says "I think I'm ready for a pistol permit and some shooting lessons." Great news! Wait, why? There have been a series of break ins in our neighborhood. With the downturn in the...

    Beretta Compact

I like mine. I don't carry (yet), so can't comment there, but the couple times I've had it out it has eaten everything I've put through it, no problems. Mine shoots a little low and left.
