I decided to disassemble the magazine tube on my old shotgun to clean it. Upon opening it, besides rust I see what appears to be a nail of some sort wrapped in black electrical tape. I don't think this is the stock magazine plug. Could someone tell me what the magazine plug would look like...

Could the serial number on a Winchester Model 37A 12 gauge single shot determine the year of manufacture? It has a 32'' barrel.

I know that this is a single-shot 12 gauge shotgun, however, I can't make out much of the engraving on the receiver. Attached is a picture of the receiver. All I can make out on it is what looks like a M, the name Johnsons, and the words arms, works, and fitch..... I'm sure more pics...
