I decided to disassemble the magazine tube on my old shotgun to clean it. Upon opening it, besides rust I see what appears to be a nail of some sort wrapped in black electrical tape. I don't think this is the stock magazine plug.

Could someone tell me what the magazine plug would look like for this gun? (pics would help) And also, what is the correct length of the plug?

The nail that is in mine is exactly 8 1/8 inches long

Attached are some pictures.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is a picture of the opposite end. It appears to be flat like a nail head.

For a 12 ga 500 the plug is a 1/4" wooden dowel 9 inches long. It comes with a couple of O-rings with an OD of 3/8" that keep the plug from falling out of the mag too easily if the barrel is removed.

I'd recommend that you bevel the ends to keep the plug from getting tangled in the mag spring and turning your repeater into a single shot. Fortunately, the turkey was already on the ground when I discovered this.

Or, even better, a piece of plastic that also won't absorb moisture like wood, or even a piece of aluminum rod, like from an old gun cleaning kit
