    Ruger American Rimfire

I bought the 22LR version last week. It was delivered yesterday, and of course I had to take it to the local range today. This is my first rifle, so take the following observations under that pretense. I found the bolt to be a bit stiff to move initially, but it smoothed out over the...

    Clays Question

Mike, it sounds like informal trap, from what you have described. Trap is usually one machine in front of you, throwing within about a 45 degree angle ahead. Skeet is usually two machines, throwing a set angle - but you move to different stations, basically changing the angle of the clays you...

Is there break in for over/unders?

I had the opportunity to take the Browning out today to shoot three rounds of trap. Tied my best score so far! I could tell by the start of the third set, it was already getting slightly easier to open and close. Shooting it was a joy, and I'm looking forward to the next outing to wear...

Is there break in for over/unders?

I just received a new Browning Cynergy over/under for my birthday. Its my first over/under, and only my second shotgun (Winchester SXP pump was the first) - so I suspect a whole new set of experiences to learn from. I cleaned and lubed the Browning per instructions, but I didn't see anything...

    Remington Bubba Thug

Not even the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax? A shame to see such beautiful items relegated to scrap.

And Now There's Red, White and Blue.....

Definitely getting a case of each. Hopefully they reload nicely as well.

Just ordered my first break-barrel air rifle!

Depending on the rifle, you may also have to learn the artillery hold, to get accuracy out of it. There's a lot of info on the net about it, but my short definition (from experience) is this: Hold the rifle securely but loosely in your hands. Let the rifle "vibrate" in your grip - don't pull it...

    Correct length of pull

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLLnGM3DXE0 The two things I took away from this: 2 fingers between nose and thumb knuckle is ideal 1/4" of stock removal will close the nose-thumb gap by 1" Personally, I would only take 1/4" off at a time, and see if it gets to where you want it to be.

Composite stock AND 20 gauge - does it exist?

Thanks for the replies. I am taking her to the LGS this week to have her try a couple Bantam and Youth model Remingtons, as well as any others they have for her to shoulder up and see how they fit her. Need to wait until March to do any actual purchasing though. :(

    Winchester Super X Defender

I have the non-Defender version (SXP Black Shadow) and she is wonderful to shoot target loads out of. I haven't tried buck yet - need to give that a "shot." :D Cycles smooth, points well, and fit and finish are pretty good. Kinda wish I had picked up the dual barrel SHOT show special, but...

Composite stock AND 20 gauge - does it exist?

oneounce: Not really an absolute, but a strong preference would probably be a better way to put it. We will be doing a lot of looking and testing out different models to see what fits her best, and in doing that, she may decide on wood instead. It's just what she mentioned when I talked to her...

Composite stock AND 20 gauge - does it exist?

I took my youngest daughter with me to the trap range today. She shot my 12ga SXP and did rather well (4 broken first round, 5 next) for her first time ever shooting a shotgun, with just a little coaching from me, and the fact that the SXP was just a bit too big (LOP wise) for her. She is...

    M&P Compact Concern

Talking with an instructor last week, he recommended holding the gun with your pinky finger outstretched, pointing in the same direction as the barrel. It feels weird at first, but he insisted that the grip of the middle and ring fingers should be sufficient to control the gun under recoil...

Red Rider BB Gun for XMAS

Not quite a Red Ryder, but we bought my daughter a pink Crosman 760 Pumpmaster for Christmas. She was pretty excited, and since it was actually decent weather, we had a great time in the back yard plinking a bit. She had asked for about a month for this gun, and we kept telling her she would...

    Question on lighter/shorter O/U

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely be trying several different brands, to check fit most importantly. I'll definitely look at the longer barrels, due to this discussion.

    Question on lighter/shorter O/U

I've been out shooting trap and skeet with my Winchester SXP for a few months now, and I have to say I am somewhat addicted. Each outing is a little better than the last. However, I can feel that itch start, to test myself against others. I have a while to go before I would consider myself good...

    Pellet gun question...

Ive used .177 lead pellets in a break action Stoeger, rated at 800fps. My backer was a wooden privacy fence (not by choice, but you go with what you have). I have had less than 1/4" penetration, and rarely a bounceback (though it did happen on occasion). You are correct, lead will be slower...

New O/U shotgun and snap caps???

I have a set of A-Zoom 12ga snap caps for my Winchester SXP, and I have cycled them through the gun with no issues probably 50+ times. The little silicone impact "primer" is still intact and usable. Yes, the edges of the cap can get buggered up if you drop them onto concrete, but the fact that...

    Winchester SXP

I have the SXP. Purchased it as my first shotgun. As such, I have not fired a Mossberg 500/590 or Remington 870, so I don't have a comparison to make. (Intending to remedy that on our next group outing, when I'll have the option to try both.) The gun itself is pretty lightweight, but the butt...

Does anyone have a winchester SXP Defender?

I have the SXP field model, and I am still looking for the Defender barrel to put on it (they had a combo package earlier this year, but I missed out on it). Picked it up over most other guns I looked at in my LGS, due to the feel in the hand and the light weight overall. Granted, that will...
