How much to load vs components on hand?

I prefer to keep the components on hand to load thousands of rounds and then only load them prior to using them. It's worked for me thus far and I load a lot! 1895gunner

    Quality Time in the Field!

BIL and I went small game hunting Monday and I had a great time - as usual. Although we struck out altogether on taking game home I had a freight train of five doe come trotting within 15 yards of me, all in a row. I also had some turkey strut by me while sitting on the ground. Just a great day...

    Best 45-70 Lever action rifle?

I've always favored the Guide Guns built by Marlin in the 1998 - 2002 year range because of available factory porting. They are still out there and I would go that direction before buying a newer Marlin. I know they have fixed much of their quality issues, just don't like the new checkering at...

    Current lever action rifles

I prefer pre-2010 Marlin's and own many of them. I'd buy a real JM Marlin over a new one any day. I've handled the new ones and they have greatly improved their action & fit but I just can't get over their checkering. I'm a Guide Gun & Outfitter nut so I stick with what I like. 1895gunner

    Some 45-70 Reloading This Morning

Thanks for the note on the oak loading blocks. I actually bought them from a member over on the MarlinOwner forum before I got my wood working shop setup. I'm getting ready to start making them myself now. I do much prefer the wood blocks to store bought plastic or metal ones. 1895gunner

    Some 45-70 Reloading This Morning

I agree it's good to know that you have choices on powder, I have several fall backs but I've come to like the H4198 in my; 444 Marlin 450 Marlin 45-70 458 Win Mag & someday a 50 Alaskan I've also settled on HP38 with a backup of H110 on my; 38 special 45 ACP 44 Mag 45 Colt My...

    Some 45-70 Reloading This Morning

Thanks guys, these pics are just from my iPhone. I'm retired now, for just over a year from Lockheed Martin - not a photographer BTW. Face it, it's the Nickel, Brass & Copper that caught your eye! Regards, 1895gunner

    Some 45-70 Reloading This Morning

I've settled on 45.3 grains of H4198 under the 300gr Remington Jacketed HP. I use Winchester large rifle primers and it shoots 1.00 groups at 100 yards time after time. I haven't put them through a chrony so can't give you muzzle velocity. I use it hog hunting but on deer I use the Hornady...

    Some 45-70 Reloading This Morning

I was headed to the range this morning with the 444's and decided I wanted to shoot the 45-70's as well so to the bench I went. I loaded H4198 with Remington 300gr HP's in RP nickel plated brass. Had a good time before & during range time today! 1895gunner

444 Marlin Reloading - Headed to the Range next Week!

Good link. I picked my size so they would hold around 300 of the big bore (300+ grains in size) bullets however there are many sizes to choose from! Thanks, 1895gunner

444 Marlin Reloading - Headed to the Range next Week!

I bought these off of Amazon: Quantum QTB305 Clear 5-1/4-Inch by 23-5/8-Inch by 6-1/2-Inch Tip Out Bin System, White Then I built the wood shelf over two of them out of poplar. Really like them, very functional and look great. I'll prolly buy more for brass dispensing as well. Thanks...

444 Marlin Reloading - Headed to the Range next Week!

I've been spending way too much time with my Guide Guns lately so I decided to spend some quality range time this next week with the Outfitters. I started looking around for how much ammo I had loaded and decided I better load up sixty more rounds for Tuesday. I don't own a progressive press...
