What's the best all around media additive for cleaning and polishing brass?

Wow. This thread has officially gone downhill.

What's the best all around media additive for cleaning and polishing brass?

You obviously didn't read the latter part of my post. Check it again. The whole part about the extra rinse, and the washing out the washer when I'm done part that addresses this. And if I was so afraid of lead poisoning, I'd not be shooting. I don't often put my clean clothes in my mouth and...

    Ordering direct from Berry's Mfg

Even factoring in shipping, ordering from PVI is cheaper than ordering direct from Berrys. For a box of 1000 100 grain projectiles, PVI was $7 cheaper than the same stuff direct from Berry's.

What's the best all around media additive for cleaning and polishing brass?

I only reload a few hundred every month or two. I don't own a tumbler. I reload for 380. By mistake, I left a few spent cases in my pants one day and ran them through the wash. They came out sparkling clean. Inside, not really. Outside was beautiful. So now I just plop them 100 or so into an...

My indoor range is willing to sell me unsorted brass for $2.50/lb. Good deal or not?

Nobody can tell you if its a good deal since there's no information really to make that decision. If you don't reload, it's not a good deal. If you were hoping for .327 Federal cases, probably not a good deal. If you were hoping for 50 AE, probably not a good deal. If you wanted 9mm or 40 S&W...

    The power of primers

I'm at a loss too. When I shoot a cartridge in the gun, not only does the primer explode, but a much larger quantity of powder explodes to a much higher pressure than primer only.

    Powder Valley

I sent them an email about shipping charges, took a few days to reply but did get back to me with the info. I thought the shipping charges were very low. $10 for a 1000 round box of 100 grain plated bullets and some rifle cartridges. That's insanely cheap. I compared the price from Midway and...

    Out shooting with Berrys Bullets.

Regarding the 7.62x54 load -- does the 1200 fps rule apply? I had some issues loading the 100 grain Berry plated rounds early, but fiddled with the load and powder to the point where I was very happy with them. I compared them to a cast bullet and found them to be vastly and I mean...

Wildcatting the 7.62x54R: A quest for 4000+ FPS

People in reloading and precision circles criticize the 7.62x54 case for having a crummy neck and shoulder. But what are they talking about? The 16 degree angle or what? I looked over a whole bunch of case schematics today and it seems that the most common in 6mm and 7mm cases is an angle of...

Are lead-free primers available as components?

I too was shopping for lead free primers to reduce exposure to lead compounds, which despite andecotal stories ("I've been shooting for x years and I never got lead poisoning!") does pose a clear health risk if treated casually or ignored. There's significant scientific evidence based on...

    357 Sig Bullets

If you shoot cast, plated or anything other than the exact bullet tested, then you simply cannot rely on factory data. Even two bullets of the same weight, but different manufacturer, can have a different shape or profile which will affect how they perform and what happens inside the gun...

My formerly misplaced disgust for Titegroup

I noticed no difference between Titegroup and HP38 in terms of smoke when shooting cast bullets. Accurate #2, #5 for instance are also double base powders with manufactuer supplied load data for cast lead bullets. Without doing a before and after weight of a recovered cast bullet, I don't...

    Depriming live primers?

There's the easy way, and the safe way. They are not the same. You can deprime them on the press. That's the fast way. Invites problems. I did this by accident on a few primed cases I got mixed in with spent brass. But I prefer to just chamber them and fire them. That's the safe way.

My formerly misplaced disgust for Titegroup

So a few weeks ago, I posted something about how much I hated Titegroup. How it was dirty, flashy, lots of bits of unburned powder, stole my dog, caused me to be the victim of identity theft, made my son run away and join the foreign legion, and stole my car. Long and short, how it was epic...

    Winchester Primers

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think the differences in the primer, as many said, are due to construction differences. I find it hard to believe that the 380 even can be loaded to sufficient pressures to manifest as pressure signs prior to descruction of the firearm itself. If a 9mm can...

    Winchester Primers

Question about Winchester small pistol primers. I loaded up a bunch of 380 with a mix of CCI and WSP primers. I was working up a new load so had a range of powder charges. On the higher end of the powder range, I noticed some primers were deep and dimpled after being fired, suggesting over...

    magnetic ammo

Steel jacket usually because it is cheaper than copper is my guess. Tula markets its ammo as lead core "bimetal jacket" which is a nice way of saying "cheap ammo with cheap jacket". People have been asking me at the range now, "what brand of ammo are you shooting?" I don't know what kinds...

    Cheap digital powder scale

Put it this way: I own a $400 gun. I am holding said weapon in my hand. Should it malfunction catastrophically, there's potential for it to severely injury me. Lost digits, damaged or lost vision. To say nothing about the damage to my gun. I will spend several hours pouring over loading data...

    Loading W231 / HP38 in 380

Well that chrono data jives pretty well with the Hodgon data, and calls into question the accuracy of the Lyman 48th ed which has W231 almost 10% faster than reality would show. Back in the day, when W231 was NOT HP38, perhaps the difference was more noted. Point being you cannot use old...

    Loading W231 / HP38 in 380

This is one of those situations where if you have three books, you have four opinions -- a situation where the more information you have, the less answers you have. I have consulted Speer, which I don't own but glanced at whilst shopping at Cabelas, Lee's Modern Reloading, Lyman 48th...
