limbsaver x-ring - Does it really work?

It's kinda the same idea as a tuner. I know tuners work, go to a benchrest match and talk to guys using them. These things in theory should do the same thing. The problem is there not really easy to move. I think you would need to install it, work up a load then move it around and look for...

    Why not Savage?

I shoot a Savage in some factory class benchrest match's. It should probably be called Savage class, because the winner most of the time is shooting a Savage. There are a couple guys who win shooting guns other than Savage that cost twice as much. And generally there guns are stretching...

    Mosin Gunsmith (project idea)

Yeah I thought about the ammo thing. Which I'd reload for it anyway to try to get some accuracy out of it. I think it would be fun to play with, the big question in my head really would be will it be fun enough to justify the expense. It would really suck to do all the work and spend the...

    54R: New Rifle

I live in a small apartment and reload. I keep everything in a box in my closet. My press is bolted to a 2x4 and I can clamp that 2x4 to the table and load where ever I want to. Sometime's I even take all my stuff to the range with me and load at the bench.

    Mosin Gunsmith (project idea)

I'm toying with a idea. I have a mosin I sporterized, it shoots like crap. I also have a 30" 1-12 twist 308 barrel from a factory savage F-class rifle just sitting in the safe(round count between 1000-1500). Barrel agg.ed around 4.5" - 5 shot groups at 600 yards on a savage action. So...

    XD questions

I've run a couple thousand 200 gr SWC through my 4.5" XDM 45. It's a little pickey about seating depth, if the bullet was out to far in would jam into the rifling. At the extreme it would cause it to fail to return to battery, or it may just be hard to eject a unfired round. Once I worked...

    MOA Shooters

I shoot some F-class, in F-T/R with a factory savage 308. I think the best I've done is 13 shots in a row in the 1 MOA 10 ring at 600 yards. I think my average scores are in the 193-195 range. It's generally wind changes that get me, I have to work on my wind reading skills with out using wind...

    Moly coated bullets

I don't use Moly anymore, although I know people that have 1k's of moly rounds down the tube with no problems. And the guns are accurate enough to win still. No one I know uses it to gain velocity, or improve accuracy. Your only real gain is you don't have to clean between relays. So while...

6BR vs .243 vs ? - Savage vs CZ vs Cooper vs ?

Im a big fan of the 6 BR, I have two of them. One is factory savage bench model your talking about and with no load development at all using cheap hornady 75gr v-max's I shot in a 600 yard IBS match last week and agged 3.9" for the day. The results were 1st = savage 6BR agg 2.9xx" 2nd =...

    New Savage fan!

I kept the factory front and changed the rear. I didn't like the adjustments on the rear. When shooting a match I didn't want to mess with the little locking screws. And the clicks weren't real positive on the factory sight, it was hard to tell how much you adjusted it.

    New Savage fan!

I had one and replaced the rear sight with a williams. More positive clicks, and no need for a screw driver to adjust. I also added a tube on the front to extend the sight radious. I did not bed the action, or float the barrel. This is one of my best groups shot in a BR-50 iron sight...

    No guns for Muslims, Liberals?

I herd a interview with him on the radio. He said this was meant to air on a small local country station.(50 mile range) The liberal thing was really just a jab at a couple of his neighbors. He also mentioned knowing the people who gave the course to the fort hood shooter. I don't think he...

    Why are ranges rather expensive?

Man I feel lucky. I'm a member of two clubs, one is only $75 per year. They have 6 pistol pits, covered bench's at 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 600, and putting in 1000k. Really nice place to shoot.

1000yd gun that doesn't burn barrels?

A lot of people get talking about 6.5x284, and forget about the straight .284. Easier on barrel, and there are great bullets available these days. I like the 6.5x47, and the 6.5 creedmoore too. They can do well at 1k, and are easy on barrels and easy on your shoulder. I would think they...

    Ammo cost exceded gun value?

I bought a 308 in the spring, costs me about .61 cents per shot to reload. .38 bullet .05 brass .14 powder .04 primer That 61 cents per shot I fired around 1500 rounds this summer, that's about $915 if my math is right. Thats about what the gun cost me. Another thing to consider...

    Long Range Shooting

Those new savage LRP's in 6.5 creedemoore would be a good start in my book.

Which group buys guns & accessories more often?

I'd vote benchrest shooters. You need a rest and bag, and most guys go through a couple before finding the one they like. Wind flags are a must. Look at the guns, and the scopes. Think about the top level guys changing there barrels after 800-1000 rounds. Think about the reloading supplies...

    80 gr 6mm at 600 yards

The Barrel is a 1-12 twist. The few people I know shooting 223 at 600 like 77-90 gr. VLD's. That have a better BC than a 80 gr. 6mm bullet. I'm sure it will get there, and be accurate, on a calm day. If it's windy it's going to be tough to shoot well. I hope someone else out there has...

    80 gr 6mm at 600 yards

Any body ever use 6mm 80 grain flat base bullets at 600 yards? I have a slow twist 6 BR to play with figure the biggest bullet I can shoot is going to be about 80 grains. I'm sure it will work great for short range stuff, 100-300. I hope it would do ok at longer ranges too. 95-105's seem...
