I'm toying with a idea.
I have a mosin I sporterized, it shoots like crap. I also have a 30" 1-12 twist 308 barrel from a factory savage F-class rifle just sitting in the safe(round count between 1000-1500). Barrel agg.ed around 4.5" - 5 shot groups at 600 yards on a savage action.
So I'm thinking it would be cool to get that barrel re-chambered in 7.62x54r and a fresh crown,(maybie add a muzzle break) and install into that mosin action.
I can modify one of the stocks I have around the house to work with the action and new barrel. I'd probably make it heavy for bench shooting only. I have one of those ugly ez-pull trigger things laying around some where. That might get the trigger down to a reasonable level for target shooting.
I'd probably then get some Lapua brass and some good heavy target bullets and work up a load for it.
The only money I'd really need to invest in this project is the gunsmithing and the brass/dies. So what do you think? Big waste of time? Or might it be a shooter? Any recomendations on where to send the gun for the barrel work would be great. What do you think that will set me back?
