Stock M&P 9c w/ Trigicon NS. The corners of the slide is worn down white. 1 extractor, 2 strikers, and 3?? Recoil springs replaced. Got a lot of rounds through it.
I keep it simple... I standardized on the M&P platform about 2008/2009 and still carry that setup to this day. Familiarity of ergonomics is my main thought for defensive purposes.
I train and can run and speedload my revolvers pretty well. But I never carry as primary ever for reasons stated...
Raised in the country and back then hunting/fishing season wasn't a sport. What was killed or netted was cleaned and eaten. Walked miles in the footsteps of my dad and/or grandfather in smallgame season.
My dad shot ATA registered trap in late 60s early 70's so my job as a little kid was to...
WML AND handheld lights require proper training during low light range time. There is no substitute.
Take your Chapstick out of your pocket and dab your fingertip on the tip and coat the lense thoroughly. It will take secs to clean your lense with a tissue. Done it a few hundred times.
Love my 30-06's. There are rifles with better numbers for velocity, drop, etc with more and less recoil. But I killed my first deer with a 1917 Enfield that my dad sporterized. I now have my grandfather's sporterized 1917 Enfield that between him and I have killed a ton of deer with.
I...
I'm a practical guy, but have a wish list that will never happen. So this is a combo of practical/utilitarian and I wish:
1 a registered magnum. We'll it's a register magnum.
2 a Ruger Single-10. Target, fun, varmints, small game
3 S&W 610 no dash 6"
4 Freedom Arms in a heavy caliber.
5 I'll...
Based on my personal testing and watching many patterns of buckshot and groups from slugs in training classes, I think this is a pretty good rule of thumb:
12ga: Imp Cyl is probably going to be you best bet.
20ga buckshot: mod is usually the best with the smaller BS sizes in 20. BUT...
Flexible,
I competed in long range benchrest for many years. Haven't competed now in 10yrs or more.
1000 yd BR = Hawks Ridge located in Wilkes Cnty
600 yd = piedmont Gun Club near Rutherfordton, NC. They also hold short range score matches there.
Also there is a new 600 yd range in eastern...
In 2019 my dad had a stroke, so for several months I lived at his place up in VA. The carpenter bees were in full assault mode on his log house. So I drove down to LGS and they had Win ratchet shells that look like 22WMR cases crimped down, and the CCI withe the blue translusent shot capsule...
Upland bird hunting has always been my favorite form of hunting. To hunt like that with a good dog is icing on the cake. My dad and I have walked many miles after grouse over the years. We lost dad in early January of this year. Another Vietnam veteran gone. So these pictures kinda hit...
Love my 870's, but my goto everything shotgun is my SBEII. Primarily bought it for ducks. After shooting it now for 15 yrs??, i don't use 3 1/2" shells for anything. They just don't pattern as well as a good 3" shell. Even when we go to the Pamlico sound in layout boats after the large sea...
I've had decent luck with the Rio #1B load also. That is what is currently in my HD gun as we speak. Through the modified choke I can shot a 8-10" 95+% pattern out to 15 yds. The Remington Ultimate Defense and Barnes #3B 17 pellet loads through the modified is the only thing that will pattern...
RMc,
Thanks for the info. I thought (10) 00 pellets in a 2 3/4" 20 ga hull didn't quite add up. But even 2B i.m good with. I just want the FC wads to shoot a more open bore choke to be able to interchange between BS or slugs as needed in a 20ga.
Time and patterning will tell
Steve
That’s welcome news. I’ve never had a 20 gauge pattern buck shot very well. I like Federal’s 12 and .410 buck shot loads, so let’s hope their 20 does as well.
I did a lot of patterning with 20ga HD shotgun and had to go to modified choke to get the #2-#4 BS to pattern. Can keep a 10" pattern...
Standby for good news for 20ga fans...
Federal just listed P/N PD204. 20ga flightcontrol wad at 1365? With 10 pellets of 00 buck. IF the 20ga FC wad works in open bore as well as it does in 12ga, that is a huge advancement for 20ga guys.
Here is a picture of my original 2008 striker peened over. I could use finger pressure and push the striker past the Apex USB. Once I removed the Apex USB and replaced it with OEM polished plunger I have close to 20K rounds on that striker. First failure was around 3K rds, 2 nd faillure was...
9mmepiphany,
Wondering your could do me a favor. Take your Gen1 pistols that have an Apex USB in them and test them for drop safe. Meaning remove the slide and flip it upside down and try to push the striker past the USB. Does your still work. I've seen a total of 4 Gen1 M&Ps that the...
Don't use WD40 for long term storage or protection of small intricate parts assemblies!! It can and does gel up and stops things from working. Short term as in hours or a couple days is better than nothing. But do NOT let a forearm sit in storage with WD40 in it. At some point it will cease...
Sir,
I own multiple Gen1 M&Ps along with M2.0 and do on the side gunsmithing work. I have probably done 30-50 triggers on various M&P models. I have not worked on the metal frame guns yet. But I have seen them and it's an M2.0 trigger design in general,
S&W's biggest issue with their...
