    Nikon Prostaff or Leupold VX-1

Im looking specifically at the 50mm versions of both of these. I saw a thread a few years ago, but IM not sure if its applicable anymore. To me, the Nikon looks brighter and crisper than the VX-1, but I like what i hear about the Leupold warranty and customer service. The Nikon is almost...

Sig P228 better trigger than P220?

Was shooting guns at my place yesterday, and my buddy brought his P228 compact Sig out. I know its only a 9mm, but its trigger pull is noticably lighter than my p220. Why? Its light enough that once I got on target and 'took up the slack' in the trigger, it went off. It was really really...

Win Model 70 ... what are these holes for in the stock?

It just occurred to me that these holes in my stock are...unusual. This is a 1964 Winchested Model 70. It does have a recoil pad, but I assume it was installed aftermarket. Are these holes 'factory'? What are they for?

    Replace Win Model 70 safety?

Can the safety mechanism on a post 1964 Model 70 .30-06 be replaced? It works OK in all three positions, but it would be nice if there was a little more of a positive feel to it's center position. Probably would just need to replace the tang portion where the divots are. Can this be done by me?

I have a 1964 Winchester model 70 that I want to put a new stock on. I found a nice one, but it is for a post '64 long action ONE PIECE floor plate. My gun was manufactured in 1964 and has a TWO PIECE floor plate. Can I make this conversion EASILY so that I can buy the stock I want? Im...

1964 Winchester M70, .30-06 - use or get rid of?

I recently bought one from a guy for a fair price. Its well used. The stock is in good shape but the finish needs to be redone. It is a 1964 year model...sn 7005xx or so. I have since found out after some research that 1964-1968 of this model are least desirable, cheap in cost, and hard to...

Silver Hunter barrel seating and lug question

Sorry for the extra post but I want to see what everyone thought about this. Its a brand new gun, 12ga. The lug on the barrel seems to have a very sloppy weld where the lug attaches to the barrel. On one side its very clean and crisp, no material is visible. On the opposite side, however...

Brand new Silver Hunter vent rib question

I won a Silver Hunter in 12ga the other day. I picked it up and the gun is pretty awesome. However, I noticed right away that the vent rib is kind of...for lack of a better term...wavey from side to side. Its not 'bent', but appears to be a artifact of milling or something. Is this common...
