    .308 win - IMR4064 or Varget

I use both but my 308 using 150 and 165 g bullets is better with IMR 4064. But my 7-08 prefers Varget and IMR 4895 over IMR 4064.

Is a Browning A bolt a decent rifle

A bolts are great rifles. Very smooth. I have a 243 with boss I got in the late 90's. I did not like how loud it was so I picked up a solid boss. Very accurate with handloads and factory ammo. Nosler BT's are devastating on deer and hog.

    Ideal shot placement for deer

Most of the time just behind the shoulder like the diagram posted. In my 308 using 150g Nosler BT they mostly drop right there and never go more that 10/20 yds if they do run. In Florida it is so thick that alot of times you don't see anything but the head and neck, so that has to be the shot...

    Favorite 7mm-08 loads?

My Remington 20" Mod 7 likes IMR 4895 the best so far. I have only loaded 140g bullets at 2.80". I will be working on Varget, 4064, and RL15 loads soon. IMR 4350 matches factory Remington ammo elevation and a little left. IMR 4895 shoots approx 2" low and 2" left of the factory ammo...

    What Caliber for Hogs

I am partial to 308. I have had lots of success with deer and hog using handloaded 150g Nosler ballistic tips. Usually drops them in their tracks.

    Compressed load for 7mm-08?

I have found that in my Mod 7, even though the max load for IMR 4350 is listed at 46g for 140 Nosler BT's, a little over 46 is more accurate and shoots better than factory Remington 140g bullets without a scope adjustment. That loading of 4350 does compress the powder. I don't understand why...

    manageable recoil load for .308

IMR 4895 in my 7-08(140g bullets) and 308(150g bullets) always felt like there is less recoil than using 4064 and Varget. But, IMR 4064 turned out to be more accurate in my gun.

    Reloading bench, how tall?

I made 2 benches. First one is 38" and the other one is 39-1/2" to the top. I am 5-8 and I prefer the 39-1/2" one. I like standing when reloading.

308 win load for whitetail in fairly thick brush

Here in Florida it is so thick that I don't think I have ever shot anything over 50 yds. I have used my 308 for 15 yrs now and only used 150g Nosler BT's. Most of the time they drop deer in their tracks or worst case run a few yards. As far as destroying meat, it is all about shot placement...

    .308 SPS Tactical Load Date

I have a 20" Rem LTR. I use Nosler 150 BT's and Sierra 165 HPBT with either IMR 4064, Varget, RL 15 and are very accurate. 4064 is the first choice for me in my gun.

    7-08 reload suggestions

I understand that but so far my experience is when using IMR 4350 in my 708, the groups got tighter as I went up to the max listed in the books. I even went over the published max a little and the groups continued to tighten up more. Not sure I understand exactly what is going on except the...

    7-08 reload suggestions

Regarding using IMR 4350 and other slow burn powders - does it make sense to use these powders in short barrels?

    7-08 reload suggestions

The only bullets I have tried so far are nosler 140 bt's with Varget, 4064, and 4350. The handload groups I am getting are 2" and with factory ammo 1". I would hope to get 1" groups with the handloads not 2". I will try RE, 748 and some different bullets. I like the bt's since I have had...

    7-08 reload suggestions

My 308 LTR likes IMR 4064 and Varget so I tried them on the 708 but the results are not that great. Remington Mod 7 20" barrel. Any suggestions on loads or other powders to try?

150 or 165 grains in .308 Win for deer?

I use 150 Nosler BT and IMR 4064 for a deer hunting round in my 308 LTR. It is all I need and is very accurate. Drops most in their tracks and the ones that do run go less than 20 yds.
