I just picked up a new to me G40 gen4 with a Burris Fastfire 3 red dot.
I have read off and on that Glock barrels will not tolerate lead bullets because of their rifling style.
If this is true would that include hard cast gaschecked lead bullets such as Buffalo Bore and Double Tap use in...
If you reload, try a 160gn LRNFP from Alpha Bravo Mfg and 5.5gn(by wt) of Trail Boss. I use it for CAS, its quite mild in a gun that big but about the same energy as a 38 special.
To qualify, I only use cast lead with the Trail Boss, wanting a load for my revolvers and rifle for CAS type shooting. My question on clad bullets is for factory loads only.
I was talking rifle. Also wondering about jacketed bullets as the bore appears to be blued, looks like my c/b revolvers. I went to the range today and compared 200gn LRNFP to 160gn both over 6gn of T/B. the 160gn was much more accurate at 50yds so I think I'll play with the powder load under...
I haven't cronoed the rifle but this load gives me 800f/s out of a 8" revolver barrel so that sounds about right, maybe 900 out of my Texas Brush Popper 16" barrel?
I have been shooting 6gn of Trail Boss under 200gn lead cowboy loads but I could find nothing in the 2 page owners manual to tell me if the gun is rated for coated bullets and higher pressure loads. I don't know that I would ever want to shoot heaver loads but I would like to know the guns...
Hi all,
I'm reloading once fired factory shells with Oregon Trails 200gr LRNFP bullets and Trail Boss. I have several brands of shells all in the 1.280-1.285 range except a group of Hornady Leverevolution shells that are 1.230-1.235 in length.
The other shell, bullet meets the required 1.600...
I read, on a SASS forum I think, that guys would fill that notch in with braze to keep the cap from sticking to it and causing a jam. I would then consider flushing the pins also.

Lots of info guys thanks. I did find Buffalo Bore 180g RN lubed at Cabelas. I loaded a cyl for my Rem58 today and it over 40g of Goex 3f puts the bullet just barley under flush. Should be a snappy load of about 400ft/lb i think. Accuracy to be determined, hopefully in a day or two. I'll report...
Hi all,
I ordered a conversion cyl. for my piatta 1858s. I keep a spare cylinder loaded with 40g 3f and ball but I think that after dark the flash would cost me my night visionhttp://images.thehighroad.org/smilies/shocker.gif So I am looking for a 250g load at 8-9hun fps and of course a lead...
I know there is value in barrel length as well as powder charge but this question is to pit the Uberti Walker against the stainless Pietta Rem Buffalo as a hunting gun.
Which would produce the greater fps with the same bullet 40gn-12 '' or 60gn- 9''
I'm interested as I want to spend my tax...
So steel for iron is an obvious safety improvement and can be made to look period correct with the finishing process, the case hardened steel used on the Colt repos does not look correct?
Most period revolver repros seem to be offered with either material as a frame by various makers. My question is were they originally made by Colt an Remington both ways or is only one historically correct for a particular gun and how do you know if you are buying a true repo or not.
I did the same thing on my 45 cal flinter. I pulled it out by using a small(22cal brush I think) and jammed it down around the 45 brush. I guess I shifted the Brussels because after a few strokes it came right up with the 22 cal brush. Very pleased as I thought I had a wall hanger.
Lots of...
