What can I shoot in a Cimirron 1873 45c

I have been shooting 6gn of Trail Boss under 200gn lead cowboy loads but I could find nothing in the 2 page owners manual to tell me if the gun is rated for coated bullets and higher pressure loads. I don't know that I would ever want to shoot heaver loads but I would like to know the guns limitations and abilities. Any info would be appreciated.

The 1873 (I have three of them) and its toggle link action is not super strong. I would keep loads under 1000fps. The factory loading of a 250 gr lead round nose is in the 850 range.

A load that I use is 4.5 of American Select and a 200 gr LRNFP. The velocity from a 20" barrel is approximately 875fps. It has little recoil but is an effective hunting load.

I love my '73s.

I haven't cronoed the rifle but this load gives me 800f/s out of a 8" revolver barrel so that sounds about right, maybe 900 out of my Texas Brush Popper 16" barrel?

I have a Cimarron 1873 SAA colt 45 and it is made by Uberti. There guns can shot any standard SAMMI rated bullet but not those for Ruger or T/C. I've shot Federal American Eagle 250 gr ammo in mine as well as black powder loads up to 255 gr without a problem including jhp standard loads with all shooting fine. Oh and I have 3 1873 Colt replicas in 45 colt and ASM no longer made, Uberti Cattleman and a Cimarron which are 4.75, 5.5 and 7.5 respectively.

My wife's favorite load is 6 gr of trail boss behind a Friendswood 200 gr RNFP bullet.

Doesn't really matter, as they are both industry rated & Italian Proof-Tested for standard pressure .45 Colt loads only.

No "Ruger Only" or +P loads please.

I was talking rifle. Also wondering about jacketed bullets as the bore appears to be blued, looks like my c/b revolvers. I went to the range today and compared 200gn LRNFP to 160gn both over 6gn of T/B. the 160gn was much more accurate at 50yds so I think I'll play with the powder load under that bullet.
I ask about the jacketed bullet because I have a couple of boxes of Hornady Evolution 225gn copper jacketed with the plastic tip for tube mags that are rated at 900f/s that I might use as a hunting load.

Doesn't matter as long as they are standard pressure .45 Colt.

Use caution and stick to published loads with jacketed bullets.

Light charges of fast pistol powder and jacketed bullet bore friction makes it easy to stick one in the barrel. I would not use 6.0 Trail Boss for that either!

Load them like the manuals say and it will be fine.

According to Lee's book, Trailboss current PDF the min. load in 45 Colt with a 200 gr RNFP cast bullet is 5.5 min and 6.5 max. I load them a 6.0 gr and find them dead on.

To qualify, I only use cast lead with the Trail Boss, wanting a load for my revolvers and rifle for CAS type shooting. My question on clad bullets is for factory loads only.

You're mentioning lead, "coated", and "clad" bullets, not sure what you mean by coated or clad.

As mentioned above, most standard commercial .45 Colt loads are safe in your Uberti, keeping velocities at or under 1000 FPS shouldn't stress the gun's toggle action too much with any type of projectile in the caliber.
Avoid CorBons & +P Buffalo Bore-type pressures. No .45 Colt "Magnums".

There's no problem shooting jacketed bullets through the bore, blued or bright has nothing to do with anything.

The LeveRevolution should be just fine, too.
