thoughts re model 36 vs 642 vs ???

A bit late to respond with any help but here's what I can add. I've owned the following: S&W 638, 640, 642; Ruger SP101 in .38/357 and the 9mm version. The one I liked to carry most out of all of those was the 638, but I switched from it to the SP101 after I had major reconstructive wrist...

What would be the most obnoxious firearm to shoot at a range?

I would think that at an indoor range it would be a black powder revolver. OK, I wasn't shooting a revolver, but I did take a single shot BP pistol into an indoor range. I thought they might refuse me, but surprisingly they said OK. Since I wasn't shooting in a hurry, and since they had large...

    FB policy change.

It would never have occurred to me to list a firearm for sale on facebook. Even if I had known people regularly do it, I still wouldn't have. This doesn't directly affect me, though, since I deleted my facebook account some time ago.

What is the most energetic hand gun caliber you own?

For a little while, I had one of those Ruger 10.5" Blackhawks in .44 Magnum. Nowadays it's a .357 Magnum, but under the right circumstances I could be convinced to have something .45 Colt. My 1858 Remington pattern cap and ball doesn't count.

    Traditionalists, where are you???

John Wayne got more than 6 out of his Colts many times Too true. If there is any place that should have a legally-mandated magazine capacity limit, it's the movies.

Do we scare off would be shooters

However, there are other types of gun related practice that one can enjoy any time. I hesitate to use the word "enjoy", but I agree with you. Indeed, some weapon handling and safety can be practiced without ammunition, or even without a gun.

Do we scare off would be shooters

When I first became seriously interested in firearms, the cost of practice was different than it is now, and so were my economic circumstances. Today, if I didn't already own a gun, there would have to be a need for it. I couldn't afford it as a hobby. Hobbies today are more along the lines of...

Would you rather conceal carry 5 rounds of .357 or 7 rounds of .380?

Between those two choices, I'd go with .380. I've had my wrist rebuilt and I can't do .357 out of lightweight guns anymore. Even before the surgery, I didn't particularly like shooting .357 out of the steel J-frame I once had. I have trouble with extended sessions of .38s out of...

    Kick Myself Later Deals

All those spam cans of milsurp 7.62xSovietWhatever (x25/x39/x54R) and 8mm. Less than $0.10/round, woe is me, woe is me. Black powder guns and supplies have really shot up in the last few years, too.

    12minutes into the latest debate

I'm not sure I really understand why any pro-2A individual would be looking for a "safe" choice among Democrat candidates. Donald Trump. I consider Trump unfit for the office of POTUS, regardless of his success in other fields or his position on the 2A. I'd rather have more of the Bush...

And, just in time, here are the "they can't do anything" apologists. Surely sir, you are not referring to me.

clearly the party has decided that an openly anti 2a stance is a winning proposal outweighing any downside. R.W.Dale, I wasn't trying to imply otherwise. Their method of attack changes. I agree with steerlerdude99's point here: They can only focus on legal gun owners as the originator of...

    12minutes into the latest debate

MErl, I think Sanders has to toe the party line. He can't afford to look weak (in Democrat terms) on this issue, so I'm not surprised if he tries to out-liberal her on hot-button issues, no matter what she says. Well, anything short of suggesting overturning the 2A and taking 'executive action'...

Probably has more to do with an attempt by Hillary to hit back at Sanders, who is viewed by some to have a chink in his armor when it comes to gun issues.

Tap, Rack, Bang Equivalent for Revolvers? Clearing a Revolver Jam Fast?

On a S&W with firing pin on the hammer, I think it was 63, I had a primer blow back into the hole in the recoil shield (sorry, I know I'm not using proper technical terms here). It jammed the cylinder, but there was no damage to the revolver. All I had to do to get it to clear was hold the...

1.5 billion dollar's what do you buy first :)

Some politicians. +1, and/or really successful lawyers, preferably ones that drink blood. Then lots and lots and lots of ammo and enough land for a 500 yard range, fenced. I can get by very happily otherwise with very little.

Heard on NPR -- NPR Gets it Right Again! (Merged)

Odd that you should mention Dianne Rehm since she just devoted a whole program to the gun rights debate with her guest panelists, who were all Constitutional law scholars. forward observer, it's not the first or only program she's devoted to gun issues. I suspect she's had more of a problem...

Heard on NPR -- NPR Gets it Right Again! (Merged)

As a regular NPR listener for many years, this is how I perceive their coverage of issues. Their news reporting is, for the most part, balanced. I'm talking about their morning and afternoon programs. Their interview shows, especially Diane Rehm, and other mid-day programs are less balanced. It...

Did the NRA not participating in Obama's Gun Forum hurt or help?

They weren't invited to have a discussion, they were invited so Obama could make them look bad. ... or if not bad, then to force them into a corner and try to dance to keep themselves from looking bad. I imagine either would have suited the narrative. jm

Details of New Executive Actions to be Announced Jan.5

Are they going to ease up the rules for getting a FFL if they are really looking at people that sell as few as two guns? I sincerely doubt they lessen the requirements for licensing. I don't know if it's possible within the scope of current law, but they might try to set up additional tiers of...
