Kick Myself Later Deals

If you don't stock up on everything AR now, you've no business whining about it later!

I just put together an 18" upper, not because I "needed" it but I didn't have one, got smoking deals on the parts.

My dad bought a 04A3 in '58 for $15.

That's ridiculous in todays terms but if you factor the CPI for a dollar then vs. now it come to $160 in 2015 dollars.

Still a hellava deal though

I will second the sentiment that those who want an AR should get one now. I see threads from the early to late 2000s when Colts were going for $1400. Now you can get a 6920 for $800, sometimes lower...

Norinco 213 9mm

Sold one several years back

Found another one by accident just got it in and did a test fire. OH YEA. This one is staying around

grr bought first one $99

new one ran $280, grrr.:banghead:

Live and learn.

Still looking for another M1 carbine. not likely to get another $250 deal like the first one. whine, whimper, gripe, gripe:uhoh::banghead:

Found some of the very earliest Shooting Times(#2 issue -#5 issue) in an antique store. Think they were dated in the mid 50's and they were like a 4 or 5 page flyer you get out of the newspaper. The #2 had a small for sale section and a guy was advertising a Singer Mfg. 1911 for $75.00. Passed up on a rack of pristine Smith Corona 03A3s in an Austin sporting goods store for $54.99 each.

Get ready to cry.....guys.... These pages are from the Rifleman, back in the mid-sixties.

In my mind the true "deals" are due to temporary market forces not calendar time x inflation. SKS was $100 25 years ago, not a deal really then or now, just inflation.

ARs as mentioned above are the deal right now. In general terms, AR quality and selection has never been greater and prices have never been lower. What did a generic Bushmaster and 30 rd magazines cost early to mid-90's (pre-ban)? I'm asking because I wasn't buying ARs then, wasn't the cost the same or more then as now? Only now we can get a superior PSA Premium line AR for "Bushmaster money" (or less?) and all the GI magazines with superior Magpul followers we want for $8-$9 per, Magpul Gen IIs as low as $9 per and any other AR mag is no more than $15 or so max.

Oh, and good quality $35-$40 forged aluminum lowers? Fughettaboutit!

Gotta remember that the rifles in the 60's were cheap because money had a LOT more value. Go out tomorrow and buy a 1963 dime. Cost you about $1.30. So, take those prices and multiply by 13 times. If inflation goes at the same rate in the next forty years as it has in the last forty, Mosins will be going for $1,500-$2,000

My first job after graduation from Purdue with an engineering degree in 1973 paid $1,000 a month gross. Gas was 28 cents. Real good paying job was $4/hour. All relative

In any event, back to topic. Mosins most likely. Most probably any milsurp. Maybe suppressors. Guarantee we will be dreaming of buying AR's at these prices. Reloading components like bullets and primers.

Got some money coming from a rifle I just sold. Most likely gonna get at least a couple lowers and LPK's. Mebbe a decent upper too.

In the early 1970's Herter's was located near me here in south central MN. They had a closeout biulding attached that was always fun to look around in. On one visit they had a 55 gal paper barrel full of finished barreled actions on close out. The J9 action was Mauser and typicaly FN , and the U9 action was a BSA action. They were nicely blued and included the floor plate and magazine.
I bought a J9 barreled action in 7mm Mag. That was $25 . A slightly flawed 90% inleted cherry wood stock cost me another $10 .

Times are changing as well as laws. The UN small arms treaty along with other factors has already effected the surplus market. It will never be what it used to in either price or availability.
Speaking of Herters, I had a friend who at 12 yrs old had a mil surplus rifle collection. I believe he bought them from Herters. You could get just about any rifle (except 1903's and M1's and maybe a couple others) for $7 to $12 delivered to your door in the regular mail. No paper work. Not even any age verification. That was before JFK was shot. 1960-61-62. Man the good old days. And those days were MUCH MUCH safer than now.

Saw a used S&W 317 "kit gun" at my FLGS for $350 (the new guns list for $750 MSRP). I'd wanted one for a while but decided to "think about it" overnight. Went back the next day with money in my hand and it was gone.

Not so safe for JFK and possibly Gen Edwin Walker. Lee Harvey Oswald mail ordered his rifle with the alias A. Hidell.

All those spam cans of milsurp 7.62xSovietWhatever (x25/x39/x54R) and 8mm. Less than $0.10/round, woe is me, woe is me.

Black powder guns and supplies have really shot up in the last few years, too.
