Best scope for $1,300? Newbie needs advice!

Nobody has bothered asking the original poster to clairify the type of shooting he plans to do, because his requirements are somewhat contradictory. For hunting with a .308, you're not going to be shooting game at 700-1000 yards, and you don't need more than 10X magnification. For sniper-style...

    Media morons strike again

Where I grew up (Long Island, NY), the process for getting a permit to *purchase* a handgun involved filling out forms, paying a fee, getting fingerprinted, and then waiting about nine months. Only then could you go to the gun store, make your selection, and have the serial number of the gun...

    .22LR Pistol Options

Every shooter should have a .22 pistol. Whether for cheap practice, introducing new shooters, or for the recoil-shy in the family, you just can't go wrong. For a relative beginner, I would suggest one of the old standbys like the Browning Buckmark or the Ruger Mark II. Also, I would suggest that...

    Fulton Armory

They seem to get a lot of bad-mouthing from the highpower boys, but I have one of their service grade M1s and an AR upper and I'm quite pleased with both of them. Clint McKee has also been happy to answer my questions every time I've contacted them. I don't compete with these guns, but they're...

    E-bay rule change

Because, unfortunately, 98% of the postings on Gunbroker are by dealers selling guns at their standard markups and relisting them over and over for free. If you are looking to sell scopes or accessories, you get far more exposure on Ebay. I wonder how they're going to enforce this. Can I...

Head to Head: Sig Sauer P-226 or Beretta 92?

I have a 92FS that's about five years old, before they started using plastic. It has a sweet trigger job by Ernie Langdon, an action that is as smooth as glass, and has never had a jam or misfire in thousands of rounds. I'd never sell it, but I just don't shoot it as well as my bone stock Sig...

sa/da (my eyes are burning out of my head)

Go out and buy yourself an inexpensive .22LR pistol, such as a Browning or Ruger. Then, go to an outdoor range during a weekday, when it's not so crowded and noisy, and you can relax and enjoy yourself. You'll never regret having the .22 around later when you want some cheap practice, and it...

Need advice: rifle for backcountry Alaska trip?

Sheesh, I never made the connection between Wild West Guns and WildnopunctuationAlaska. When are you guys going to be offering a 75% THR discount?

Need advice: rifle for backcountry Alaska trip?

I have no use for it, even if I had the money, but the Alaskan Co-Pilot takedown by Wild West Guns has always rung my bell.

Anyone put Trijicons on their Glock THEMSELVES?

Just FYI, I was installing a Trijicon rear sight on a Sig with a sight pusher and the rear dovetail was so tight that I mangled the sight. I called Trijicon, and they were more than happy to have me send them the slide and the damaged sight. They installed a new one and had it back to me...

    Glock 21 (more problem prone?)

I've had six different Glocks and the only one I ever had feeding problems with was the 21.

    Alumagrips, what do you think?

I had a pair of Alumagrips (and grip screws) Bear Coated to match my gun. They've held up extremely well.

    Beretta Pre-Ban Magazines ???

In my experience, the Beretta 92 pistols are not that picky about magazines. I have some no-name 15-rounders I bought about three years ago for $10 each that have all worked flawlessly. Ammoclip.com has Asian military contract mags for $26 each and $46 per pair. Worth a try, if you ask me.

Les Baer vs. Wilson Combat vs…

The best thing you can do for yourself if you want to get into 1911s is find a really good local pistolsmith that you can trust. Les Baers and Wilsons are way above the level of Kimbers and Springfields, in my opinion, but that doesn't mean they're always perfect. I have several Les Baers, and...

I HATE it when people give you things you can't use!

I'd like to meet the guy who shot 500 rounds of .45-70 in one range session. They probably call him Lefty now. :)

New gun, horrible flaw? Ever happen to you?

I love reading these stories where someone buys a lemon, complains about the decline of ethics in American manufacturing, and then proceeds to pawn said lemon off on some other unsuspecting sucker.
