    Cabela's: Good or bad?

I spent 3.5 years behind the new gun counter at Cabelas and about 6 months in the library. The library deal is to offer 70-75% of the blue book value for any firearm brought in. This goes down if there is a surplus of one type on the counter. When I was there Polymer 40's were all over the place...

    Ancient Springfield 1911

A couple of things. First off, this old guy is NOT going to be altered, smithed or changed in any way what so ever. Not while it is in my possession. It also is not going to be fired. I have other 1911's for that purpose. I'm pretty sure it was in the possession of a right handed officer as the...

    Ancient Springfield 1911

Yeah, there will be no "lemme refinish this guy to put it back into shape" nonsense. The holster. Ok, I live in a very arid climate and the holster was moldy and cracked. I did clean it with saddle soap and apply 2 coats of Obenaufs leather oil, but the deterioration had to be stopped. I also...

    Ancient Springfield 1911

Ok, let me present my case and see what turns up. A Springfield Armoury 1911 #81xxx. Manufactured in 1915 if my net research is to be believed. The standard patent is on the slide and the gummint property stamp is on the frame. Both the frame and the slide have the flaming bomb stamped on the...

Ted Bundy's boot gun is for sale on Gunbroker.com. Would you want this?

Serial killer memorabilia. I would not want anything to do with it. About the best story regarding such memorabilia I have read was regarding John Wayne Gacys "artwork" that came up for sale after they finally (finally!) flushed that pos for good. Anyway, much handwringing was evidenced...

Web, rags and writers, who do you read?

Regarding all of the available media out there, who influences your firearms opinion? Which magazines/ print writers, web sites, you tube channels, forums/boards etc. do you pay attention to? Which ones do you see as reliable vs. which ones do you see as shilling for the industry? Who do you...

Jeh Johnson: Gun control is now a matter of homeland security

These are dark days indeed. Islamic terrorists attack and politicians immediately pivot to their pet issue of gun control, aided and abetted by their media lapdogs. Yes, it's coming at us from all sides. God help us should Hillary win and the Dems get control of the Senate. The UN small arms...

Would you support the No Fly No Buy List if they added Due Process?

So, you get investigated by the FBI for being a potential national security risk due to potential future behaviors and are not allowed to fly on a commercial airliner nor purchase a firearm. So, you are investigated by the FBI for exposing state secrets but you are still allowed, and in fact...

Daily news reporter fires a AR 15 gave him PTSD.

I just have to wonder, what does destruction smell like? MR

The gun you want but never buy even when you can

I have several .357's. Good Rugers and Smiths, but, of course, I want a Python. Then reality sets in and I realize I'm not about to let go of $2000+ to scratch that itch. The same goes for the Korth offerings. That type of $ spent on a firearm would send my better half into hyper turbo...

    Going rate for Colt Python

The last Python I saw left Cabela's about a week ago for $2500. 4 inch blued in 90%condition. It resided in the library for 2 weeks prior to adoption. Later that day I adopted a S&W 686+ for $690. It had been collecting dust for 2 months. I don't know what it is, but snake guns cause complete...

    Help me spend $1500

IMHO there have been a couple of very good suggestions. A pair of high end binoculars like Swaros or Zeiss will serve you well and as the op pointed out (correctly) great glass is much better than average glass. Also, the 6.5x55 Swede is a great multi use caliber. Good luck with your shopping. MR

    Lanyard to steady pistol

I tried a lanyard on a revolver once. I never got to the point of shooting with it though. I found that the thing was excellent at hanging down and snagging every possible tree branch and shrub I managed to come across. I suppose it would maybe help keep your sidearm with you in a combat...

    Selling two guns at Cabelas.

Here's the deal at Cabela's. You bring your gun in. The gun is examined and rated for condition, then the blue book value is assessed. You are then offered 70% of that value. Cabela's is in business to make a profit period. If your firearm has a jillion dollars of sentimental value, do not even...

    Sig 1911

I have the Carry Nightmare 1911. Match grade sear, barrel and hammer. It shoots superbly. Yes, its Sig-ish, different slide profile and external extractor being the most obvious differences. It's not what God told JMB to design, but it sure runs well. I like the bob tail, much easier to carry...

Fun to shoot AND pocket carry

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned the excellent little Beretta 3032. Easy to carry, easy to shoot, easy to load. Somewhat hard to find, (at least in these parts) but well worth a look. MR

Ruger GP100 vs. Ruger GP100 Match Champion

Well, ok. MrBorland seems to have put forth the definitive answer to chamfering. As far as the tapered cylinder question goes, my reading of other boards and general scuttlebutt seems to indicate that the "improvement" associated with it is a slight lessening of weight and easier reholstering...

Ruger GP100 vs. Ruger GP100 Match Champion

Well, the MC does have quite a few features that the standard GP does not. Fiber optic front sight, chamfered charging holes, tapered cylinder, half barrel lug, wood Hogue stippled grip, 11 degree target crowned barrel and an improved (according to Ruger) shimmed trigger. Is it worth the extra...

    .22 Rough Rider

Well, it's not a Sig, Colt, Smith, H&K blah blah blah. It's a $200ish revolver that will do what it's designed to do. If it is what you want then go right ahead and get it.

Is there anything better than a Smith 686?

Better is a very subjective term. The 686 is a legendary performer in an affordable price range, and there is really no fault to be found with them. Do take a look however at the Ruger GP 100 Match Champion. Lots of nice features make it well worth consideration. MR
