I'm thinking about buying a SIG 1911 because want a good quality gun for the range. I seem to be on a SIG kick and I was wondering if they are high quality when it comes to 1911s and if there are any reasons not to buy one?

I have 2 sig 1911s. One in 45 and one in 9mm. Both run great but the 9mm I changed the hammer and sear with kimber parts for a better trigger pull. The fit and finish is very good on both.

Nice guns for the money but I'm like oldways; in a 1911 I would go with a Colt.

I had a Colt Commander and didn't care for it so decided to buy a Kimber Pro Carry II, loved it. I then decided to buy a Government model, a neighbor had a Sig 1911 for sale. We took it out back to try it out and fell in love. I have had two them.

When my first wife passed, I was forced to sell a couple guns. First one that went was the Colt. Finally ended up selling my Sig. I have since replaced it.

First one replaced was the Sig. Since then several more Sigs have moved into my home.

Great guns.

I picked up a Target variant in '14. The checkering on the frame is well done. Fit is smooth, finish is even and it runs without issue. Picked it up on sale for a tad over $750 with all the tax and paperwork. Been very pleased. A thumbs up from my perspective.

Have three Sigs and they have all been flawless. One being the C-3. My son's Sig 1911 has been flawless, also.

I trust'em.

The slide on some models of the Sig do not conform to the outer contour dimensions of the traditional Browning (Colt) making good holster fit an issue. I'm sure some internals went "off the reservation" also but I have heard very good things from gunsmiths about the quality of Sig internals.

My TTT is my favorite 1911. Beautiful gun.
I've never had a hickup with any load, even when filthy... I can't say that about some of my more expensive weapons.

The slide profile throws me off. It looks like a SIG, but it's a 1911, but it doesn't look like a 1911, it looks like a SIG...

Several posts mentioned they like Colt better but not why. Those who like Colt over Sig, have you actually owned a SIG 1911? If yes, why do you prefer the Colt?

I don't own a SIG 1911, although I've been looking at them pretty hard lately. I still like my Colts better. I'm not much on checkering and the slide profile is different from a standard 1911 so it would require a different holster. (SIG does make some 1911s with the traditional shape, so that isn't insurmountable.). I can take or leave the external extractor; it's not exactly traditional but neither is much else about them. Not really my aesthetic though. I could do without a firing pin safety but at least they went with the Colt Series 80 type rather than the Swartz type.

The SIG 1911s that interest me most are their bobtail offerings. They're about the least expensive way into that variant; I don't care for Kimbers, I find the S&W bobtails gaudy, and Colt doesn't make one. The Kobra Carry is gorgeous but a bit pricey.

I've owned just about every 1911 in the Sig's price range, and put tens of thousands of rounds through each. I left trying the Sig for last because of its non-traditional extractor - I really didn't want to like something that wasn't 100% as it was supposed to be according to JMB.

And yet they were/are universally my favorite 1911s. They are accurate, very well constructed, with the amenities that I value, and they ship with good magazines and not throw-away mags.

I've given most of my 1911's to my kids, but I've kept one 5" steel frame 1911 for myself. It's a Sig.

I have the Carry Nightmare 1911. Match grade sear, barrel and hammer. It shoots superbly. Yes, its Sig-ish, different slide profile and external extractor being the most obvious differences. It's not what God told JMB to design, but it sure runs well. I like the bob tail, much easier to carry and doesn't dig in to my hip. When I sit down. I also think the standard night sights are a bonus. It's a bit pricy, but still in the same realm as some of the stock Colts, just with more features. Give one a spin and see what you think. Compare them side by side then see which one has more value for you.
