Slide Milling. Who is good and who isnt?

I pulled the trigger on a DWX and am going to have the slide milled for a 507 comp. Now it's just a matter of finding out if anyone has any experience or info on those that advertise slide milling. Anyone have knowledge of places that do milling?

SR1911 hammer follow - worn sear

Well, after 11 years and roughly 40,000 rounds. My SR1911 has finally wore the hammer/sear engagement surface down a bit. At a bowling pin shoot the other weekend, I noticed the hammer would drop to half cock, when dropping the slide on an empty mag. does not drop with a loaded mag, or during...

Had an idea for an invention

I had an idea pop into mind today. The idea is to make an auto powder dispenser that dumps direct into the case. Think of combining the RCBS chargemaster and a shell holder. set your charge weight, plop in a primed case, pull out a charged case. instead of a plate for the scale, you'd have a...

Leupold Vari-x III 3.5-10 Still Good stuff?

Was given one of these over the holidays. it's just come back from leupold service. Essentially restored to new. But don't know anything much about it. Leupold has always been good stuff is about all I really know. I know it's older, but how good are they against today's stuff? I was...

SW Victory Performance center muzzle brake/comp/flash hider issues

For reference it's this model: https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/sw22-victory-0?sku=12080&preselect=1 I went to clean the Victory last week. what I thought was just carbon buildup in the flash holes was actually a pile of lead. A rather significant pile when it was all said and done. Soaked...

Primer popped on the press last night

Strangest thing. Loading 223. on the 650. Everything was going smoothly. Seated a primer and BANG. primer fired while seating it. Heard about that happening, but in close to 100,000 rounds loaded - first time for me. Nothing on the face of the primer indicated anything. looked like it...

RIP Frankford tumbler. Long live the tumbler!

After 15 years of faithful service, my frankford vibratory tumbler gave up last night. I think the brushes or armature on the motor are done. For as inexpensive as it was when I bought it, I am rather surprised that it made it this far.

Mount Super Swage to RCBS plate

Anyone know of anywhere that might have made an adapter plate to mount a Dillon Super Swage to the RCBS plate? I've had that thing (rcbs plate) bolted to my bench for years and was thinking that would be a nice place to mount the swager to when I need it.

brass felt odd going through sizer

Sizing 308 last night. One would think you would notice the difference grabbing a 30-06 case. But apparently not until you are on the downstroke and it feels strange. on a side note. that should have bumped the shoulder back plenty for for pretty much anything.

    Restrore a Dillon Powder Hopper

This will likely work on any plastic hopper. I found myself with discolored powder hoppers as many of you have and I have thought about replacing them with the glass ones, however I'm sometimes cheap. SO I found myself reasoning. why not mess with one first and see if I can improve things...

    Badger Ridge Industries

Found this vet owned company when looking for something to use for a scope standoff for the gun rack pieces I got from a buddys stack on safe. While I was on the site looking I saw they had holders for the cabinet doors, and I got to thinking about making magazine holders for my safe. A few...

    scope standoffs for safes/cabinets

I'm sure multiple safe companies use them, but I bought a stack-on safe, and it comes with those plastic scalloped gun barrel rests for standing long guns upright. If you're also like me you've been frustrated that they might send you one or two of the extenders for guns with scopes, but not...

    7.62x25 tokarev, and backstops. ?s

got a couple questions for anyone that might know. The short version is our indoor range backstops are simple 1/2" thick angled steel plates, not AR500 or any ballistic rated stuff. We explicitly state no magnum cartridges at the range. and checking for them is part of the routine. Our...

Borescope pic what am I looking at?

So bought a borescope just for fun. but this is what I see when I look down the barrel of my savage Trophy XP 308 Somehow this is not what I expected to see. Can someone help me identify what I'm looking at? the bore looks like someone ran a damn tap and die down it to my eyes. is that...

    Standard Manufacturing 1911s

anyone familiar with them? Handled one this past weekend. They had a highly polished blued one on the shelf. The deep bluing is what caught my eye. Really stood out against the crowd. Kind of like an old colt. really a nice deep color finish. Trigger seemed nice too. Only had a few moments...

Ammo, current events and the efects on your local shooting range/club?

It was the annual meeting for our club last night. The outlook is grim for us. out of the 500+ members we had registered at one time. just 25 showed up last night. Zero respondents online. This is also the time of year that we renew the annual memberships. A few have renewed online and...

Dillon Super Swage - fully converted.

Well, call me a convert. After collecting a significant pile of range pickup. I now moved onto removing the military crimps. Started out using the RCBS case prep center I had. which admittedly works okay. but is rather slow, and the fingers do get tired grinding them away. I happened to...

tumbling brass. a "duh" moment for me

Like a few others likely have had happen. When tumbling brass, I've occasionally forgotten about the tumbler and it's run for, shall we say, olympic level extended sessions. Cue in yesterday, moving some things around the garage. and among them is some Christmas stuff - with one of those...
