Demand for High Capacity S&W Shield Magazines?

It isn't a good idea to rely on just one magazine be it extended capacity or not. Back to the original poster's question ... Promag is the only option I've seen. Try one out at the range for a month or so before staking your life on it. Odds are that you won't use it past the first range...

    1911 Problem

It could be a worn slide stop detent, worn-out plunger tube spring, or a slide stop that's got some wear where the detent engages it. That's where I would start first. Also have someone watch you shoot from the rear and left. Perhaps you're knocking the slide stop up with your support hand...

    45acp Brass/Case Mouth Reforming

I use the needle-nose pliers-- insert them closed into the case mouth and then open up the handles. Like others say, the sizing die will iron them out the rest of the way.

Metering 4064 is driving me nutz any hints.

I have done a fair share of cussing while metering stick powder out of an RCBS Uniflow. I tried baffles. I switched to pan-weighing every charge. Then I started loading the .223 Rem. loads I use IMR-4064 with on a Dillon RL550B. The powder flows through the Dillon meter uniformly without a...

Anyone finds it easier to conceal a full size pistol on the weak side grip forward ?

I used to carry large-frame revolvers in a cross-draw holsters. It does make it easier to carry a six-inch barreled revolver when you're forced to get in and out of vehicles. Some ranges frown on cross-draw holsters because of the potential for sweeping the muzzle other than downrange. Finding...

Firearm / hunter safety, some just don't get it!

I was starting to think Bob was a closeted member of PETA until he wounded the deer.

S&W revolver chambers different sizes (same caliber)

There are all sorts of case gauges and no reloader should be without a set of calipers. If all the cartridges you measure are within the SAAMI specifications, then it's a chamber issue. Then you need the services of a gunsmith. http://saami.org/specifications_and_information/index.cfm

    custom dogger suggestions

For ranges like that, you need the higher BC of 6mm or 6.5mm bullets. Then you have to have the right twist rate. So it's probably a matter of picking a bullet and velocity you want to use, and then selecting the right cartridge and twist rate. Are you planning to shoot coyotes for their pelts...

S&W revolver chambers different sizes (same caliber)

The old Model 28 has rebated cylinders. Some carbide reloading dies will leave a ring down at the bottom of the case. So I would guess those would chamber in the Model 28 and be a little tight in the non-rebated cylinder Model 10. So check your dies. Make certain your cases are within...

9 mm with a short trigger pull

You mentioned the Sig Sauer P229. Did you look into installing a short reset trigger kit? Then there are pistols with the single-column magazines. The Walther PPS comes to mind. Some of the Kahr Arms products might work for you. It would probably be best to stay away from the shorter ones such...

    9mm with .357 bullets

Some of the 9mm bullets will mic out at more than .355, particularly commercially cast or plated bullets. At times when a Ruger SA doesn't shoot as well as one likes, the chamber mouths are a little too tight. I've not checked any recent cylinders.

    First Big Bore Suggestions?

I love S&W N-frames and Ruger Blackhawks, and have had them in .41 and .44 Mag, .45 Colt, and .45 ACP at various times. Most of the time, I use hand loads with cast SWCs. I use a lot of Unique and keep velocities down. The brass lasts a very long time that way, too. It's a delightful way to pass...

What really is the effective range of an AK 47/AKM?

It depends on how you define "effective". And then when you introduce the human element, some users are more effective at thinking and shooting than others. Then some are more effective at making themselves less of a target...

Practical performance difference between 9mm+p .38 super and .357 Sig?

There are a few .357 Sig chambered 1911s out there, but again the .357 Sig is stubbier than a .38 Super or 9x23. That requires spacers in the magazine, and therefore you have to experiment with finding a source of trouble-free magazines. Granted, you'll get more muzzle energy out of a hotter...

Point of impact of 158gr vs. 130gr .38 cal.

If the velocities were the same for both bullets (you said all things being equal), the bullet with the lowest ballistic coefficient will drop more. That would most likely be the heavier bullet. But most things aren't equal when one's shooting factory ammo at 25 yards without a Ransom rest.

    Firearm Vs. Mindset

Sometimes carrying a gun gives one a false sense of security. I have no idea if that was the issue here. I try to stay the hell out of Chicago. When I'm there, I don't go without a weapon or wander around after dark. And even with a gun, I'd still be nervous.

Are Gun Shows really worth attending?

It depends on the amount of tables, the longevity and track record of the promoters, and the quality of the vendors. The gun shows at the Tulsa, OK, fairgrounds are usually worth a drive. I have bought reloading components there a lot. It saves on shipping costs.

How to get used to 12 gauge recoil?

oneounce makes a good point. The factory-issue stocks are set up for the median of a wide range of users. I'm not at the median, and a lot of us aren't. I usually need less length of pull than what an issue stock offers. Patterning buckshot or shooting slugs from a bench will take its toll...

    Ammunition and Accuracy

When the bullets impact "all over the place", focus on the front sight. Most generic ball ammo will group within 5" at 25 yards from a rest.
