Try out the HK's when you get a chance, the new ones - P30 or HK 45 have unbelievable ergonomics, albeit at a price.
I have some Glocks, but I just don't love them. But they do go bang every time.

Have 2 EMPs in 9mm. Absolutely awesome guns. I did changed them both to tactical safeties. I don't know why they have to put ambi's on a gun meant for concealment. Easy enough to change and they are great guns.
How will the gun be used? Carry? Range? What other guns do you already have?
My choices would be:
Springfield EMP - daily concealed carry and great shooter
Kahr MK9 - great for deep concealment, not so fun at the range but better than PM9.
HK P30 - great for untucked concealed carry or range...
Hard to beat the Milt Sparks VMII mentioned above. You will also need a good gunbelt to go with it. I carry with one of these and have tried many other solutions. This is the best I have ever tried by far. I even carry all steel commanders and a full size with rail with great comfort.
Small 1911's = regular spring changes.
On these small guns the springs wear out a lot faster. I don't have the springfield but have a Kimber Ultra Carry. Just make sure you keep replacement springs on hand.
