Hello all! I'd really like to try loading some 9mm from one of the companies making Hi-tek coated bullets, but there seems to be a real lack of solid info about them.
The only thing that seems to ring true in all my looking is that the case mouth has to be flared a bit more than FMJ or plated...
I have tumbled live rounds ever since I read that article at ar15.com. I have never had a single problem with any round whatsoever. They all went bang.
Nuff' said.
RCBS will take care of you, likely for free. And when get the new decapping pin(s) and assembly, for goodness sake back it off! Sounds like you had it set way too low!
I use the corn cob media from Drillspot: http://www.drillspot.com/products/521055/econoline_526040g-40_40_lbs_blast_media
I fill my tumbler about 2/3 full, then drop in a dollop of Mother's Aluminum polish. My brass comes out looking brand new, just as good as a wet tumbler in fact, and I don't...
Do what mdemetz says and go with the Drillspot corn cob media. I did the same, and it's enough to last for years. I use mine with a dollop of Mother's Aluminum polish that I get from the auto parts store, and my brass comes out looking brand spanking new after a 4-5 hour tumbling session.
I...
I've tumbled lot of live ammo that I get from the CMP. It's filthy after being in storage for decades. Corn cob media with a dollop of Mother's Aluminum Polish makes it look like brand new!
Thank you everyone for the great info!
I was specifically asking regarding making up some new loads for my M1 Garand using 140gr Nosler CC bullets that I scored on the cheap. 140gr is not a typical bullet weight for the Garand, and I wanted to do some tinkering to see if I could get an...
Is there a rule of thumb you fellows use when making up new loads? Are you making five, ten, twenty rounds of each load to see how they shoot off the bench?
Having used walnut and corn cob both, I get the absolute best results with corn cob (which I got from Drillspot), and about a teaspoon of Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish. And before anyone goes off on the Mothers, I already received first hand word directly from the company that it does NOT...
Has anyone ever used 140gr bullets for their M1? Seems at matches and such, everyone is using either surplus ammo, or 168gr Nosler or Matchking bullets in reloads.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I just did a test batch of Garand ammo, but have yet to shoot it.
147gr FMJBT bullets
Greek HXP Brass
Winchester LRP
47.5gr IMR 4895
We'll see how they shoot real soon. Hoping to get to the range next week.
