    Hot weather BP

About ten of us just shot on black powder day at the Visalia Sportsman's Assn. The temp. was way up there when we were done for the day, but I didn't notice any difference in performance of my rifle...

    A fragment of my past

Yeah, this stuff has a way of working itself out of the body. My grandfather was a motorcycle rider in WWII and was hit hard by a German grenade. For the rest of his life he would pop out bits of metal up until his death a few years ago.

    Pillow Ticking?

Been shooting BP revolvers for a year and make my own felt wads for them...but I'm getting a traditions Pennsylvania tomorrow and plan on doing some shooting with the patches that I ordered with the rifle but wanted to know if I could run down to the local fabric store and use their pillow...

    semi-auto muzzleloader...

Been thinking of a hypothetical semi-auto muzzleloading submachinegun the last couple days....trying to work it up in my mind if it's even possible. My idea would consist of sten-type stick magazine with ten holes for .490 balls and a nipple on the back of each. On the back of the stick...

    Muzzle Flash Program

The point I believe he's trying to make is that you can use the app to capture the muzzle flash of any gun...he's just demonstrating it with a flintlock.

    Remember When

I went to school in the '80's and our woodshop teacher let us all build crossbows in class! We were graded on how well we hit the target. Being a slacker at the time, I cut alot of corners and shot my bolt into the adjacent housing complex and the class was hurried back into the shop. I asked...

How do I keep the nipples from freezing up?

I went to an auto store and got some of the grease that you use to keep sparkplugs from seizing in the head.

    Liver of sulfer

When I was a kid and would drive a tractor to sulfur the vines, my dad gave me an Old Timer knife and told me to use it to open the 50lb bags of sulfur. After cutting the first couple bags open, the carbon blade and nickel bolsters were dead black. I'm not sure if it would work with brass but...

    Alright...you guys were right.

Just for fun, here's my second place group using the Pietta 1860. 32 rounds from 45 feet. Still a bit high and to the left. The bottom two shots were nitrated cartridges that I was trying out and wanted to keep them clear of my primary group.

    Question on round ball size

For my Pietta 1860, 457 balls work great for the first cylinder...usually by the second cylinder I have to drop down to 454 to compensate for the fouling.

    Alright...you guys were right.

Hey 72Coupe, I think that the general thought amongst most shooters is that 'those black powder guns' refers to the thought that they are older and therefore not as reliable and not as accurate as a gun that just came out. Of course it's bollocks...it's even worse when you tell them you're...

    Alright...you guys were right.

Went out to shoot the Pietta 1860 again today. After fussing with caps, nipples, misfires, etc. I've got it figured out and the missing element was the Remington caps. I've used CCI's with poor results and the RWS work fine on the Dragoon, but the 1860 is VERY happy ingesting Remington #10's...
