    ar-15 cam pin

How can I tell whether the thing is cracked or just notched? Is it normal for there to be a visible and feelable (with fingernail) notch on the side where it's exposed to cam forces? This only has about 50 rounds on it. It's not deep, but it's enough to hang up a fingernail or knife.

    Instant Runoff Voting ( IRV ) bill, H.R. 5293 -- Kill it

The bill was introduced Friday, so the text is not yet on thomas.loc.gov. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:h.r.05293: http://www.fairvote.org/irv/jacksonirvbill.htm Everyone needs to be aware of the fatal problems with IRV and the existence of better alternatives. Approval...

Is it dangerous to use the term "assault weapon"?

Now that the ban has expired, is it unwise or dangerous to use the terms "assault weapon" and "semi-automatic assault weapon"? They're defined different ways by different people and by different states. What about a letter-writing campaign? Anyone wanting to help can go to the main THR...

    sig pro stuck slide?

On a new sig pro I just got, after racking the slide it won't go all the way forward without an extra push. It stops about 1/2 to 3/4 cm before it should. I disassembled it, lubed it, put it back together, but it still exhibits the same problem. If I push the slide forward it doesn't take too...

    TX knife & club legislation

I sent this to my reps (Hartnett and Carona) today, but if a bunch of TX residents want to send similar suggested legislation to their reps it might hammer a clue or two into the legislature's collective consciousness. No, it's not ideal, but even this has about a snowball's chance of being...

Someone in Hampton, VA might want to combat this Letter-to-the-Editor

http://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-19316sy0jun03,0,1936104.story?coll=dp-opinion-editorials (second letter) (No, Mr. Weinberg, they consider support of government-sponsored welfare, both social and environmental, to be a character flaw. Assault weapons have nothing to do with the...

Darl McBride of SCO/Caldera admits CCWing

I hope nobody tries to hurt him, but given his company's antisocial behavior it's a bit weird to see him admit to taking these kinds of measures. He lives in Utah, so there's no issue of priviledged acquisition of a ccw. However, a bit of the reporting is bogus. A licensed gun? In Utah...

Editorial staff of the AJC needs correcting

http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/0304a/05guns.html "Pry Congress from cold, deadly clutch of the NRA" "The measure -- the NRA's top legislative priority -- had already passed the House, and this week was close to passage in the Senate as well, until NRA lobbyists stepped in at...

    The new Bush-Cheney '04 advertisements

The campaign released three TV ads. They don't seem very inspirational to me, more like he wants everyone lulled back to sleep now that 9/11 is receding into the past. http://www.georgewbush.com/TVAds/

    state knife laws

http://www.thehighroad.org/library/blades/knifelaws.html Corrections and updates welcome. I'm sure a few of the entries are wrong, particularly those with question marks. The goal is to condense caselaw and statute and to allow rapid comparisons between different states, not to make...

    Latajang?

Supposedly it's a pole-arm, about 3' total, with crescent-shaped blades (concave side out) on both ends, and triangular blades facing backwards, one on each side of the pole/handle on the convex side of the blade. The entire blade is about 10" wide, with the triangular rear spikes being maybe...

How not to treat the BATF.

Typical BATF routine. A search warrant was executed for class 3 stuff which wasn't found, but other weapons were found that were illegal due to other federal laws. Too bad that this guy had a protection order against him. In the included footnote, it is mentioned that the federal charges...

http://www.mnsun.com/story.asp?city=Richfield&story=127654 ... The AMSD platform also calls for a change to the state’s concealed handgun permit law that would allow school boards to ban firearms on all district property. The current statute allows permit-holders to carry guns in school...
