Check the front of the cylinder. That's where they used to be and I much prefer them there as opposed to the nasty noticeable stamp they are putting on the side nowadays.
It is not a timing issue. The plunger hits the top of the chamber next to the cylinder base pin. I actually did chamfer it a little bit with a file thinking it was just a bur. But the problem persists. I checked Cabela's return policy and it says no returns on firearms or black powder firearms...
I recently bought a new Pietta 36 caliber Remington revolver.
When I went to load it I could not get the ball to seat flush with the cylinder face. I initially thought I had just charged the chamber with too much powder, but I dropped the charge amount by several grains and the next ball...
Actually I have heard of a case here in Missouri where a convicted felon killed a man during a home invasion robbery with a cap and ball revolver. He didn't get charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, but he did catch the burglary / murder charges! I also personally know a...
OK, I am going to basically disagree with everyone and everything you have ever heard about brass framed revolvers. I think their reputation for weakness and frame stretching comes from the earlier generations of replicas made in the 1970's or so. I have observed some of those that seemed to...
I shoot .457" balls out of all of my 44 Caliber cap and ball revolvers.
Bigger bearing surface and a better gas seal the way I see it.
Plus I have reamed the chambers on all of my revolvers to .4535" so they seat very easily while still sealing the chamber.
But they also worked well in...
I have used many pounds of Goex 4F in my 1858 Remington.
A full chamber full with just enough room to seat the ball.
Never had a problem with that load. Gave about 1080 fps and was as accurate as any other load I ever shot in it.
I have also shot it out of a 1851 44 caliber "Navy"...
Here is the text of my review I posted on the Cabela's website after receiving my revolver just before Christmas. BTW it was on sale at the time for $159.00 plus shipping of like $15.99 so its only about $4.00 more right now and definitely a good deal. As you will see in the review mine had...
I believe the bullets are swelling up to seal the cylinder when they are pressed down into the chambers. I am using bore butter to seal the chambers over the bullets.
I read an interesting article explaining that chainfires were really caused by unburnt powder grains being crushed against...
They sure seem like a handful. If I had to guess I would say they are very close to roundball velocities so I would guess around 1000 fps or so.
I know they penetrate deep into the oak block I have been using as a target backstop.
I bought a new old stock carbide tipped chucking reamer off of Ebay. It had a small step down to get it started straight in the hole. It wasn't made for reaming cylinders, but boy does it do a good job!
A 29/64 ths is the size you need. Reamed 2 of my cylinders out and now a .454"-.457" round...
I was contemplating ordering a conical mould for my 36 caliber revolver when an idea struck me to try my 9mm Makarov mould.
It is a Lee 95 grain round nosed bullet with 1 lube groove. The nose is almost the exact same profile as a round ball and fit the face of the loading lever almost...
They did the right thing denying the sale. ATF has gotten very particular about addresses being the actual physical address where you live.
I had to go back and make a correction to a 4473 at an Academy store after the ATF dinged them for me using the incorrect abbreviation for Route. I put...
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas they always have smoking deals.
Picked up a Steel Frame .36 Navy 1851 for $169.00 around the first of December.
