    Bargain bin

Nice. I found a colt style powder flask one day last week in a bargain bin. Gave $10 for it, also has a 20 grain spout on it.

    Revolver Load Compression

I have tested this from a bench quite a bit and there is an accuracy difference when compressing the powder. I also use a cylinder press and load off the gun, which makes compressing the powder easier and more consistent. I don't shoot this way every time I go but have done quite a lot of this...

    Revolver Load Compression

Have to agree, I don't shoot loads that light, but ones that are compressed definitely outperform.

    Question on Cimarron Arms

IME Piettas tend to have the arbor correctly fitted with the bolt often being more of an issue. Ubertis are typically the reverse of that. It'll have a short arbor.

Felt and card wads a "bore obstruction" risk in revolvers?

Like tommygunn said, depending on the distance you shoot, you can often see marks or holes on a target from the wad.

1851 brass frame 36 cal revolver no markings

With no markings, most likely a kit gun, but maybe you already knew that.

Range sessions with my new Pietta 1860 Army.

Crawdad, I don't know if you tried this, but, when I am working up loads and trying to squeeze the best accuracy out of one of these revolvers, I always weigh the balls and use only the heaviest ones. Not advocating that approach for all shooting, but for working up a load and figuring out the...

Grease the wedge on a Colt?

How thick is the Mobil 1 grease? If you "packed" the cavity wouldn't that much grease provide enough friction to slow the action parts down, bolt arm resetting over cam, or otherwise make things feel sticky, etc? I use a white lithium grease and graphite on the action parts, but don't pack...

Like a lot of niche hobbies, a good introduction makes a huge difference and increases the likelihood that someone will pick it up and continue.

Nice job. All I ever find at the local flea market is old belts and socks. Maybe someday I'll run across something good..

Asked for black powder... offered smokeless

Sadly, somebody that didn't know better might've taken their advice and loaded that up and shot it. I live in SWFL and that particular store quit selling real BP about 6 months ago. I think BPS in general has quit selling it.

    Uberti 1860 and .451 balls

If you already have them, see if they shave a ring of lead. If not, give them a soft tap with a mallet, you just need a few thousandths, then shoot em and get the .454's.

.315 Round Ball in .32 Squirrel Rifle

I can't remember the twist rate off the top of my head, but I have it written down in my box. I do wipe between shots, it's probably not totally necessary, but when I was working up loads it was a good habit I got into. In my experience the smaller calibers are more sensitive to all the...

.315 Round Ball in .32 Squirrel Rifle

Has anybody used a .315 round ball in a .32 cal squirrel rifle? I've typically used a .310-.311 round ball and varying thicknesses of patch material with 25G's of 3F. I guess there'd be room to move down a little in patch thickness and try the heavier ball, has anybody done it? Or have any...
