Actually, they're just for locating so a softer nail would be better than drill stock. If you ever needed to replace one, it's much easier to drill out soft steel. They need to be "fitted" anyway.
AS it happens the one to the photos right is a finish nail. Just find one that's a tight fit, tap it in and cut to length. This ones been there a couple of years and many takedowns. It's an 1860 however.
