    Kerr sling length

I'll do those things. I am an Army veteran so have to have bayonets for everything, oilers are cheap, magazine follower depressor, if I can find a cheap one.

    Kerr sling length

Thanks for the information. I think I will just stop messing with it and put a repro WWII Enfield cotton web sling on it. That is my favorite sling, as it is very comfortable and easy to adjust. Very inexpensive, too.

    Kerr sling length

Adding a couple of images. Sling is just way too short. Maybe a shotgun sling?

    Kerr sling length

Thanks for the reply. The sling swivels on the 1917 are about 28 inches apart, and it is 38 inches from the rear sling swivel to the stacking swivel. Not sure the difference in distances between the sling swivels would make that much difference between slings for these two weapons. Don't know...

    Kerr sling length

I just added a nice Model 1917 to my collection and the seller threw in the gift of a Kerr sling. I tried to install it and it is just a bit too short to latch the clip on the front sling swivel (not the stacking swivel) when fully installed. Guessing it might actually be the sling for the...

Identifying 1858 Remington manufacturer - FAILED. But...

"That said, I can see that this mark could be interpreted as a "P" in the middle surrounded by not one but two "R"s. So we may be looking for "PRR" or "RRP" gunsmiths or manufacturers." Or "RRR".

Identifying 1858 Remington manufacturer - FAILED. But...

@Ephraim Kibbey: I pulled the trigger guard and no marks on the frame. There was a "66" in black marker on the trigger guard, itself. @kBob: I searched the forum for mentions of Riva Esterina and it appears their mark may have been PR. Not sure the mark on my pistol could be interpreted that...

Identifying 1858 Remington manufacturer - FAILED. But...

...some really interesting information surfaced. I called EMF to see if they could identify the manufacturer of my 1980s (1982?) Remington New Army revolver. During my conversation with them over a few days, I discovered that the wooden presentation case was still in the original box in my...

    Dating EMF 1858 Remington revolver

@Fingers McGee. I was born in Hannibal. My mother's family got Spanish land grants around O'Fallon, MO. They came up from Kentucky with Daniel Boone in the mid-1790s and stayed while he went back to bring his family up. Over a few years they were Spanish, French and American citizens without...

Buying a blackpowder firearm in Illinois

Update on this: Cabelas in Hoffman Estates, IL will now ship a BP pistol to an FFL in Illinois but they will charge shipping AND a $50 FFL fee. You can also have Cabelas ship a pistol to the Hoffman Estates store if you want, if they don't have what you want in stock, but the above still...

    Dating EMF 1858 Remington revolver

Looks like 1982, which sounds about right. The box is three sided and I mistook the "I" for the fourth side of the box. If it is supposed to be in a four sided box, then it must be a light strike that didn't make the whole box. Thanks for the fast responses!

    Dating EMF 1858 Remington revolver

Thanks for your reply. No Roman numerals, just what is mentioned above. The proofs on the barrel, frame and cylinder are a star over a shield and a star over a "PN". There is also an "A" in a box with the two other stamps on the frame. Would that be the date code? 1975? I always wondered...

    Dating EMF 1858 Remington revolver

Getting back into shooting black powder after about a 20 year hiatus and picked up a couple of Pietta brassers, neither of which is historically accurate (1858 Remington and 1851 Colt Sheriffs model, both .44), just because I like their looks and don't plan to shoot them a lot. I still have a...

Buying a blackpowder firearm in Illinois

"Illinois has really gotten stupid lately. . Effective July 1, the State of Illinois now requires that ALL modern guns (Post 1898) be shipped by an FFL to an FFL. This includes post 1898 percussion revolvers. An additional cost would be the FFL Transfer Fee and the extra cost for UPS 2nd Day Air...

Buying a blackpowder firearm in Illinois

Yup, I have FOID card. Thought about trying a different FFL dealer. Mine has never dealt in black powder before. I'll make some calls and see if I can find one who will handle it. Has anyone found a retailer who will sell to Illinois residents at a reasonable price? The one I found is in...

Buying a blackpowder firearm in Illinois

Has anyone successfully purchased a black powder firearm in Illinois? If so, where and how? I am specifically interested in picking up one or two Pietta 1858 Sheriff's models. I found an on line retailer who will ship to my FFL, but my FFL is leery about accepting them because the law is so...
