I wanna say "no," but as my avatar indicates I finally gave in to red dots with my old, bifocal needing eyes. I'm at that point where some days I can see the front sight fine, and others I can't. Don't have that problem with the red dot.
It does take a bit of getting used to, though.
So, I've got a couple of 9mm 1911 with external extractors that have no issues: both Ed Browns. Note that I do not shoot 115gr - it's generally 124gr or 147gr (when I called and asked Ed Brown recommended against 147s in general because longer OALs in this platform may cause reliability issues...
I've been calling Dasan USA (the manufacturer) at their Atlanta location and as of yesterday they have the replacement plates in. Mine should be shipped next Thursday, which means I can do a more thoughtful review soonish.
Dasan USA is a Korean arms manufacturer, by the way.
And some of...
Yeah, I've got one of these and it's outstanding, but it's my only experience with the brand.
From that experience I can say that Manurhin can produce some outstanding firearms. Whether they did so for PPs they manufactured I can't say.
I appreciate that they fund some of my favorite youtubers, but the only comments I've heard are negative.
That's hearsay though - I have no direct knowledge one way or another.
If the threat profile changes, I change what I carry. For the most part I carry 1911s of one sort or another. But while I might carry a 45ACP around the house and around town, if I'm heading somewhere away or to "the city" I'm more inclined to swap that out for a 1911 platform with 15 9mms on...
That's the problem I've seen in gel tests. There are some 115gr loads that are really well thought of, but they do something like 10.5" of penetration, while the 124gr get deep enough.
Don't know anything about the pressure the loads generate inside the cases, though.
So, I'm a bit of a 1911 snob and I've always claimed Glocks have No Soul - mostly because of the triggers. And the Glocks I've owned I haven't shot well.
So, I didn't shoot them. Over Covid I got into a bit of a revolver kick, and I won't say I've "mastered" the double-action revolver...
Transitioning from irons to optics for carry, and I'd like to convert one of my single-stack 9mm 1911s to take an optic instead of buying yet another pistol to training and range-work.
Who does this sort of conversion well? I'm willing to commit to a particular footprint and not do plates, or...
I was in the "no" camp as it was something other to go wrong and I didn't want to put in the reps, but I'm coming around. Mostly because I finally admitted I have middle-aged eyes and I can't see as well as I used to.
So with irons I'm better than everyone I shoot with at 7-10 yards, but I...
I'm....actually a bit shocked to hear that. Interesting.
Edited: after looking at the prices I shouldn't be. I'm just not familiar with that manufacturer.
My wife had a friend who moved out of state, but when he was living in a fancy part of Atlanta his house was burglarized. A crew came up by using a ladder and winches to cut through the 2nd story wall, then go in there to avoid the alarmed windows and doors. They stole everything, including a...
Welp, it came in. And this thing is ridiculous. I was just giggling through the few mags I put through it (mixed super-cheap 230gr ball - I think one of the mags has been loaded 10 years because it was a weird off-brand - and 230gr HSTs.)
The RMRcc came dialed in, and it was just dead on and...
If this is what I think it is, don't watch the footage. The police officer approached, bad guy drew a big knife, cop tried to run, and failed.
You don't wanna see the body cam footage.
I'd love to participate, fellas. I really would.
I want a .44 Special or .44 Mag to be a great self defense option. Bigger simply needs to be better for everything to feel right with the world for me.
I just can't find the data to support that it's as good as (let's be honest) 9mm launched...
