Picked one of these up today. Don't have strong opinions yet, but I thought I'd post this while my thinking is still clear on it.

What is it? It's an Officer-sized(ish) 1911, in 9mm, that takes Glock mags and has a capacity of 15 rounds.

Why'd I buy it? What's its purpose? I'm trying to move to optics, as my eyes aren't so great any more. I also really prefer narrower grips, and this was advertised as having a grip narrower than a 1911 does.

Is that true? Yep. I measured the width of 4 pistols:
  • Fusion Riptide C (steel 45ACP Commander): 1.21 inches
  • Ed Brown EVO KC9 Lightweight: 1.15 inches
  • Wilson EDC X9S (renamed to SFX9 now): 1.10 Inches
  • Alpha Foxtrot S15: 1.07 inches

That ain't bad for a 1911 trigger and 15 rounds of 9mm in the magazine.

Does it fit my hand as well as the grip width would indicate? Nope. The Ed Brown Commander is still more comfortable in-hand, and I can't determine why yet. This is the same perception I have with the Kimber KDS9C - it just feels bigger and blockier. I don't think this is the grip length either - the Ed Brown is 2.04 inches front-to-back, and the S15 is 2.10 inches - hardly noticeable. I'll pay more attention to this.

How about an overall assessment on feel? It's comfortable in-hand, and it fits on my waist reasonably well (mostly - I don't have a perfect holster for it.) That said I'm not sure it's my favorite:
  • The Ed Brown Commander is simply more comfortable and well-balanced. It's a pleasure to shoot, and feels great in-hand.
  • The Wilson has been "melted" better. Part of that is that there are no cocking serrations on the Wilson, and those on the S15 are sharp. Some of that is that the stippling on the front and back of the S15 is very grippy (nearly as much as on the Fusion, which is aggressive) whereas on the Wilson it's more comfortable and less grippy which works most of the time.
  • Vs the Steel Frame Fusion? This is pretty darn nice, and I carry the Fusion sometimes without difficulty or complaint.
Tell me about mounting the optic: 2 screws, and then you wonder why the optic plate isn't moving because it's locked on tight. Turns out it's just a really, really well machined cut, and if you put pressure on the base of the optics placeholder spaceholder thingie it comes right off. From there, tighten down the Holosun using the same 2 screws. Done.

How's it shoot?

I'm not really sure, because the Holosun didn't have enough adjustment to zero the weapon. At 7 yards I was shooting 6-8 inches low.

I called the manufacturer, and got a call back after not leaving a message. I was told they're aware of the problem, are designing a spacer, and if I call back in a week they will send me one free of charge.

So at least the customer service is good. I'll be back in a bit over a week.

Thanks for the details. I hadn't seen that particular model before. I'll be staying tuned for the range report.

I’d me more than irked with those results..

you could probably toss the gun more accurately. :neener:

Well, yeah. Stopped shooting at that point. Had another Holosun on order thinking it was the optic, but got the call back in time to cancel.

We'll see once the new plate comes in.

Annoying, but my serial number is under 1000, so I suppose it's to be expected.

I've been calling Dasan USA (the manufacturer) at their Atlanta location and as of yesterday they have the replacement plates in. Mine should be shipped next Thursday, which means I can do a more thoughtful review soonish.

Dasan USA is a Korean arms manufacturer, by the way.

And some of their other products look kind of cool:

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to trying this out. It looks like a great carry piece, but I need to put it through its paces...

Dasan also makes a Glock 19 clone with an aluminium alloy frame. I don't remember the name. Sootch00 on youtube reviewed it.

After you get that plate in and the gun zero'd i think youll like it. Dealer friend of mine got one of the early ones a some months (maybe a close to a year, i cant remember right now) ago that had the low shot issue as well as slide/frame fitment issues, we shot it and found the problems.
They sent him a new slide assembly and an early corrective plate that fixed the issues.
I found it a really fun gun to shoot....but guns built around double stack mags fit in my hand better than regular 1911s
